The Home Coming March (1908) - Concert Band Score and Parts PDF

Music by: ET Paull

Of course, eventually, all the soldiers and sailors had to eventually come home from all the battles and Paull had that eventuality well covered also. The artwork on the front cover (of unknown origin) is one that is full of imagery that covers all aspects of the services, Army and Navy and is full of patriotic and familial ideals. The border lists all of the US States and the corner pictures depict aspects of homecoming. The main image is a parade of victory. Let's let Paull explain it all to us as he did on the inside cover.

Why This Piece Of Music Was Named
The Home Coming March

  Explanatory

When the author had about completed the music of the present march, it occurred to him that it might be well to have suggestions made from a number of people, recommending a good name for same, for after all there is considerable in a name. He, therefore, had a special advertisement placed in several of the leading music Journals throughout the country, offering a prize of $10.00 in gold to anyone suggesting a name that would be accepted. Over three thousand names were sent in from all parts of the country, even from far away New Zealand and Australia, in which countries the author's marches are universal favorites. Included in the letters received was one from Mr. W. C. Bates, Secretary of the Sheffield Advertising Agency of New York and Chicago, in which he suggested the name The Home Coming March. After due consideration, this name was accepted, and the prize was awarded and paid to Mr. Bates, who stated that he was prompted to recommend this name on account of having been present during the impressive celebration of Old Home Week in Boston, Mass., last year. Probably no one idea is so universally dominant in the mind of the Human Race as that of home, or matters pertaining to home. The author believes that the name selected is one that will appeal to everyone; as the many pleasant associations with the words Home Coming are almost without limit. The title page of this march is without any exception the handsomest seen on a piece of music. The main body of the title pace represents a street scene, with buildings decorated and shows a handsome royal Arch of Welcome in the foreground, gaily decorated with flags, emblems, and bunting. A band is shown passing under the arch, leading a procession of the Home Guard, and thousands of people waving handkerchiefs, banners, flags, etc. Four smaller scenes also appear on the page, one representing the Home Coming of the soldier from war; another scene shows the Home Coming of the sailor boys embarking from their battleships; another scene represents the Home Coming reunion of the family and loved ones; the fourth scene represents the Home Coming of the father from work, where a little tot has been watching and waiting, and runs to meet him. The whole design of the title page is then surrounded by a border of differently designed medallions, on which appears the names of all the States of the Union, making without a doubt, the most unique and attractive title page ever conceived for a piece of music.

One thing Paull mastered early in his career was the art of overstatement! Musically, this march is beginning to show the repetitiveness of many of Paull's works, especially evident as time passed. Once Paull found the formula (a fabulous cover and a playable, rousing march) that sold music, he stuck with it and was quite successful as a result.

This arrangement is for Full Concert Band with the original optional piano part ( Not on the score).  There are parts for Trombones 1 and 2 in TC and BC as well as parts of Euphonium in TC and BC.  The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3.

Composed by Thomas Shacklady. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Multicultural,Patriotic,Praise & Worship,Traditional,World. 42 pages. Keith Terrett #898806. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1309638).

An arrangement made especially for the Band of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary of ''O Arise, All You Sons''., one og PNG's two professional military bands, the other belongs to the PNG Defence Force both based in Port Morsebly the nations captital.

O Arise, All You Sons is the national anthem of Papua New Guinea. Adopted in 1975, it was written and composed by Thomas Shacklady, a former Royal Marine who took over the band from Inspector David Crawley. I took over the band from 1994-99, after taking the band on two overseas tours to Adelaide in 1996 & Kobe in 1999.

The National Identity Act of Papua New Guinea was formulated in 1971, motivating the country to create a national flag, a national emblem, a national pledge and a national anthem. A national flag and emblem were adopted in 1971. However, the national anthem remained undecided until independence from Australia in 1975, four years later. Although many songs were submitted to be the anthem, the National Executive Council decided a week before the country's Independence Day (10 September 1975), to adopt as the national anthem a composition that was composed by Chief Inspector Thomas Shacklady (1917–2006), a bandmaster of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Band.

During the 2015 Pacific Games opening ceremony, the anthem was sung with the first line altered from O arise all you sons of this land to O arise sons and daughters of this land. An official later stated that this was illegal and a violation of the National Identity Act.

Before he Cheats was a huge crossover hit for Carrie Underwood in 2007, charting long and high on Mainstream and Country US charts and winning Grammies for both the singer and the writers, Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins.

This version is a flexible band arrangement scored for Solo Voice along with Rhythm Section, Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones, Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet, Flute, French Horn and Violin.

You will download a single 28 page pdf which combines the full score (in landscape format) with all the separate parts (in portrait). It suits players at an intermediate standard and is guaranteed to be popular with young and old. The arrangement is designed to be flexible as not all instruments need to be present for a convincing performance. Once the rhythm section picks up the shuffle groove the rest of the band will play with confidence. This version is equally ideal for school bands and professional bands looking to add a big hit to their repertoire.

The overall performance time is three and a half minutes. Listen to the audio MIDI sample to get an impression of the arrangement.

La Tomatina was composed in 1996 in Buñol, Spain while I was researching Spanish band music. Buñol is a small town of about 9,000 inhabitants about 19 miles (30 kilometers) from Spain’s 3rd largest city, Valencia. For 364 days of the year, it is a typical small town, but on the last Wednesday of August it becomes an international attraction. On that day the La Tomatina festival is held. Several trucks drop as many as 145,000 kilograms of tomatoes unto the main street and for an hour at 12:00 noon there are up to 100,000 people taking part in throwing tomatoes at each other. At 1:00 everybody goes to the specialpublic showers to wash up. A fire truck comes down the street washing down the buildings and the main street and by about 2:00 all is returned to normal and all references to the tomato fight are gone. Thetradition has been going on since 1945. I was in the streets taking part in throwing tomatoes for three years. After that when I was in Spain during the festival I watched it on TV.

Buñol also has a rich tradition of having two very good concert bands – the Litros and the Feos. Most of the 9,000 inhabitants formally belong to one of the two social clubs. There are several band competitionsheld in Spain and both of these bands take part. The band competition is fierce as bragging rights are won by the winning society. It is thought that this fierce competition is what helps develop excellentmusicians in that many young people become professional musicians and play in many orchestras and bands throughout the country.

La Tomatina was premiered by the U. S. Army Band Pershing’s Own on the U. S. Capital steps in June 1996, the composer conducting. La Tomatina is the second movement of Sinfonía de Valencia, a three- movement composition that was premiered in Buñol by the band of Centro Instructivo Musical El Litro Buñol, conducted by Francisco Tamarit in August 1997. Sinfonía de Valencia is recorded by the band of Centro Instructivo Musical El Litro Buñol, conducted by Fernando Bonete Piqueras on Mark Records (CD3816). La Tomatina is also on Youtube with video of the festival at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbpZU7vK3PQ.

La Tomatina was a winning composition in 1996, awarded a grant by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. It also won the IBLA Grand Prize in Sicily, Italy in 1998 and was a Semi Finalist as part of the American Prize Composition Competition – Band Division in 1996.
This arrangement of La Tomatina was prepared especially for conductor Natalia Montañés in 2004. In thisarrangement there are four percussionists instead of the original five.

La Tomatina has been very popular among bands around the world, performed over one hundred times.

''Sim, eu volto'' (in english: ''Yes, I will be back'') is a song presented here in its instrumental version for concert band. Cururu is one of the genres of Brazilian country music that inspired the creation of this song.
This song tells the story of a country person who went to live in the metropolis and reflected that it was all illusion when she was confronted with the violence and ambition typical of the big city, making her miss the simple life in the countryside.
The wood stove, the mud on the ground, riding in a cart, milking the cow, eating fruit from the tree, the freedom to walk without worry are memories that lead her to believe that God willing she will one day return to her origins.
This instrumental version included three solos that can be replaced by improvisation.
The main melody and counterpoints alternate between suits, with the use of voicings characteristic of the style.
Without a doubt, it's an excellent opportunity to expand your band's repertoire with authentically Brazilian music.

Texas Hold 'Em is a song by Beyoncé from her eighth studio album. The song was a surprise release and debuted during Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024. Titled after the poker game, Texas Hold 'Em is an uptempo country pop, western and soul song featuring elements of folk. Music critics praised the song for its playful tone, authentic sound, Beyoncé's vocal performance, and its celebration of the Black roots of country music. The track also ignited discussions on Black musicians' place within country music, increased the listenership of Black country artists and country radio in general. The song was a commercial success and marked several historical achievements; it debuted at the top of Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, making Beyoncé the first Black woman with a number-one country song in history, also topping the charts in Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, as well as peaking at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming her 22nd top-ten hit. This arrangement shifts the key to a more band-friendly one and features all sorts of shouting and clapping to get everyone in the party spirit!

OVERCAST was originally written as part of a three-movement work for solo trombone and piano. When I was composing the original work, I wanted to create an additional arrangement of the 3rd movement (DRIZZLE) for concert band.

The work is inspired by the brief period of my life when I lived abroad in England. As many people are aware, it rains constantly in Great Britain, thus making it an easy inspiration for music. Even though I consider this work somewhat melancholic, it is meant to also reflect the warmth and comfort I felt while living in the country where I met so many wonderful people. Other inspiration for this movement came from Ralph Vaughan William's Pastoral Symphony, most notably, the 4th movement.

Composed by Nicholas McClure. Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Nicholas McClure #3226621. Published by Nicholas McClure (A0.1028045).

On December 14, 2012, at 9:35 a.m., the entire country stood motionless, for a horrific act of terror was underway. Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 first-graders and 6 adults, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut; a moment in history as one of the worst school shootings that our country has ever faced. Every single child which was murdered had a future of their own, taken away at the hands of a ruthless gunman, who in an instant, ended any chance that these 20 children had to have a happy life. Along with these children, were the 6 heroic staff members who so selflessly gave their life in order to stop this perpetrator who came to destroy the fragile object that we all call life. The title of this piece, The Sandy Hook Lullaby, is symbolic to represent the deaths and aftermath on that faithful day. This particular piece is a lullaby to represent the day that the victims lives were taken, ending with a peaceful goodbye. The song starts strong and valiant, to represent the beginning and potential of a new day. As it progresses, the song softens a bit, with clarinet lead, which represents the students learning in the classroom and the staff working as normal. A swell in volume represents the knowledge learned, as they are completely unaware of the events to follow. Halfway through, terror strikes. The percussion solo is representative of the the 5 minutes that the entire attack took place. The entire finale of the song is to represent the peaceful rest of those murdered, the final goodbye. The song ends softly, as the victims are put to rest, and because most of the victims were children, this comes in the form of a lullaby. Just as a loving and caring parent would put their child to sleep with a song, we give our final goodbyes with this Sandy Hook Lullaby. Thank you, and please enjoy with reverence and respect. -Nicholas McClure, Composer.

King of the Road is a song written by country singer Roger Miller, who first recorded it in November 1964. The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite having little money (a man of means by no means), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the king of the road.

This is an arrangement for the Concert Band. There are parts of both Horns in Eb and F, Trombones 1-2 BC and TC, Euphonium in BC and TC, and Tubas in Bb, Eb, and C. There is also an optional Piano part - not shown in the score...

Composed by Hewitt, James. Arranged by Jacklich, Joel. Holiday,Patriotic,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 26 pages. Joel Jacklich #6222869. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723171).

In 1817, James Hewitt set Francis Scott Key's poem The Defence of Fort M'Henry (which we now better know as The Star Spangled Banner).  Hewitt's original song gained some local popularity; however, throughout most of the country, people began singing the poet's words to a popular drinking song then known to many Americans, English composer John Stafford Smith's To Anacreon in Heaven (originally written for a popular gentleman's club of amateur musicians in London, the Anacreontic Society).  Whereas John Stafford Smith's music was borrowed for the poem, Hewitt's music was especially composed for the poem.  I was asked by Mitch Sturman, the band director of the Wilson Junior High School Warrior Band in El Centro, California, to arrange the original piano music for his band to play at his annual spring Concert of Premieres where he presented new works he had commissioned for his band from well-known band composers, and arrangements of neglected works he felt were worthy of performance.  This was one of those neglected worthy pieces by an American composer for an American poem.  It is orchestrated for flute, oboe, clarinets 1-3, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax, bassoon, French horn, trumpets 1-2, baritone horn, trombone, tuba, timpani, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, and glockenspiel. .

It's signature tune was written by British composer Edward White as library music, evoking the bygone era of gently puffing steam locomotives in the English countryside.
