The work is demanding, particularly as regards technique and rhythmic complexity. This work was commissioned by the Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Blasmusikverbände [Federation of German Wind Music Organisations] and has been a set piece in competitions at the most advanced level. Stephan Adam studied Church Music and Composition in Frankfurt am Main; Kurt Hessenberg was one of his teachers. Published by Clive Longhurst (A0.918665). This arrangement is a re-orchestration of a British brass band contest piece, commisioned for the 1970, 2nd Section,W.D. & H. O. Wills Final test piece. A particularly musical (unlike a lot of more recent contest pieces), yet subtly testing piece for most sections of the band. I have included a page (page 35) with useful printing instructions.I hope I have done it justice as it is my personal favourite contest piece.
