'Have You Met Miss Jones?' is a song from the 1937 Broadway musical I'd Rather Be Right, a Depression-era political satire set in New York City about Washington politics and political figures such as President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The plot centres on Peggy Jones and her boyfriend Phil, who needs a raise in order for them to get married; the President ultimately steps in and solves their dilemma. This jazz standard has been covered by many artists over the years, including George Shearing, Anita O'Day, Frank Sinatra, Robbie Williams and Seth MacFarlane - it is also cited as a potential inspriation, in its bridge passage, for saxophonist John Coltrane. This arrangement has been created from the jazz combo version by Michael Philip Mossman and features short solos (with suggested lines and chords) for clarinet, flute, trumpet and alto sax, with drum breaks towards the end.

El smooth jazz es un subgénero del jazz surgido durante la década de 1970, que se caracteriza por desarrollos melódicos sencillos aptos para radiofórmulas y para un publico amplio, no necesariamente aficionado al jazz. En definitiva, un jazz más comercial, en el que predominan las influencias y los elementos procedentes de otras latitudes, como el soul, el funk o el pop. A este estilo, calificado por algunos como “música de ascensor”, por supuesto que de manera despectiva y, desde mi punto de vista, injusta en la mayoría de las ocasiones, pertenecen artistas como Al Jarreau, Lee Ritenour, Kenny G, David Sanbourn, The Rippingtons, Yellowjackets, Spyro Gyra, Larry Carlton, etc. El saxo es uno de los instrumentos solistas habituales, aunque el que protagoniza nuestra entrada de hoy es el fliscorno, en concreto el de Chuck Mangione, otro de los autores de referencia en el ámbito del smooth jazz.

A particularly musical (unlike a lot of more recent contest pieces), yet subtly testing piece for most sections of the band. I have included a page (page 35) with useful printing instructions.I hope I have done it justice as it is my personal favourite contest piece.
