In his Quadrille Un ballo in maschera Johann Strauss jr. processed motifs from the opera by Giuseppe Verdi. With it he continued a tradition of quadrilles  based on motifs by other composers. It premiered on 21 December 1862 at Volksgarten in Vienna. Va, pensiero, also known in English as the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, is a chorus from the third act of the opera Nabucco (1842) by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Temistocle Solera, inspired by Psalm 137. The opera with its powerful chorus established Verdi as a major composer in 19th-century Italy. The full incipit is Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate, meaning Go, thought, on golden wings.

An adaptation of the magnificent bass aria Ella giammai m'amò from Giuseppe Verdi's Grand Opera Don Carlos. The arrangement was made for the 95th Anniversary Gala Concert of Sinsen Konsertorkester (Sinsen Concert Band), held in Oslo, Norway on October 28 2023. The arrangement is made to match the composers intentions as closely as possible, and turned out to be one of the highlights of a great concert. The original cello solo in the introduction was performed by the arranger himself on trombone, but the musical director is free to let the solo be performed by any suitable instrument. Additional parts will be made available on request.
