This is an arrangement of the Holiday favorite novelty tune. It is for concert band and two voice parts, either male (the way my band performed it) or female by simply raising the voice parts an octave. I included just four of the many verses that were orginally sung in the TV version but also included an orginal bridge as well as a Grinchy soli for the band. You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch is quite challenging but a lot of fun. l hope you enjoy it!

Abraham Lincoln Funeral March for Concert Band

This funeral march written by John Gross Barnard was performed by the United States Marine Band during the funeral procession from the Executive Mansion to the Capitol for Abraham Lincoln on April 19, 1865. The march is titled: Funeral March in Memory of the Abraham Lincoln: Played at the Obsequies of the President of the United States by the US Marine Band.

The funeral march follows the standard format of dirges of the time (most notable are Webster’s Funeral March, Chopin’s Funeral March and March in Saul by Handel) written in minor keys (considered somber) and divided into eight measure phrases which makes it easy for the funeral cadence to be played underneath. This funeral march, like most written during this time, has a transition to a major key (happier sounding). This march goes to the relative major (D minor to D major) key.

Since no parts are extant from the US Band, I was asked to score the march for a modern symphonic band. I hoped to capture the somber drum beat and employed a chime to replicate the bells that tolled along the funeral route.

A retired member of the United States Air Force Band where he served on the Music Production staff (as well as a trumpeter and bugler) and student of Bill Holcombe, Jari Villanueva continues writing for different ensembles. Incantation and Fugue provides a rare opportunity for grade 2 bands to explore the use of mild dissonance in a piece at their level. The first section begins mysteriously and gradually builds to a big climax. The second section is a very active fugue in the key of C minor, fairly strict in its form and contrapuntal working out of the thematic material, while giving all the players plenty to keep them busy and interested.

Though left unfinished by the composer before his death, Alexander Borodin's opera Prince Igor lives on in the repertoire thanks to orchestrations by Alexander Glazunov and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The overture, a concert favorite of audiences since its posthumous premiere in 1890, is here reworked for wind ensemble. The piece is a collection of arias, duets, and dances from the opera itself, coursing in and out of love themes, marches, and fanfares, all to end in a vibrant flourish.

The introduction to Lehar's lesser known operetta The Little Prince works well as a stand-alone work (with the addition of a bar at the end to close it). There is plenty of variety in the piece, despite its relatively short length.
It has plenty of interest for all players in the band, although the key makes the Tenor and Baritone Sax parts a bit challenging.

As usual with my parts; print double-sided as presented, including any title pages and the page turns will work.
