Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1263184 Composed by Frances Lai. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Film/TV,Holiday,Pop. Score and Parts. 44 pages. John Ivor Holland #856167. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1263184). Love Story is one of the greatest romantic tragedies in American film, being rated #9 by the American Film Institute. The main characters Oliver and Jenny are from polar opposite backgrounds but fall in love at first sight - there are many setbacks through their journey, but the full power of their love always shows. This charming moment from the multi-award winning score, 'The Christmas Trees', was inspired by the carol 'Silent Night' and accompanies the lovers enjoying their first tree together. Would make a charming addition to any holiday concert for a moment of Christmas warmth. Optional string parts have been included.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.833832 Composed by Michael Compton. Contemporary. Score and parts. 100 pages. Kreechur Kumfort Publishing #4303995. Published by Kreechur Kumfort Publishing (A0.833832). In the year 594 BC, as the city-state of Athens was spiraling into social and economic ruin, Solon was elected Chief Magistrate. From this position of power earned on the battlefield, Solon was able to institute reforms and a new manner of governance. At a time when a high percentage of the people were steeped in indentured servitude due to crushing debt owed to a small percentage of aristocrats, his reforms were in no way popular, however they paved the way towards modern day democracy. Solon: Lawgiver of Athens depicts Athens during this time as Solon comes to power. You will hear the great city-state of Athens, the senate in turmoil, Solon shouting down the din, speaking calmly and with measured reason, and eventually you will hear a move towards a major tonality of the themes as Solon’s reforms take hold and social and economic stability is once again established. This piece was written to commemorate the opening of the Solon Center for the Arts in 2017 and was first performed by Solon High School Band in Solon, IA.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1454878 Composed by David Raksin and Johnny Mercer. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Film/TV,Jazz,Pop,Standards. 41 pages. John Ivor Holland #1033949. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1454878). 'Laura' is a 1944 American film noir produced and directed by Otto Preminger, starring Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews and Vincent Price. In 1999, 'Laura' was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant and the American Film Institute named it one of the 10 best mystery films of all time. Once the principal photography had been completed, Preminger hired David Raksin to score the film. The director wanted to use Sophisticated Lady by Duke Ellington for the main theme, but Raksin objected. Alfred Newman, music director for Fox, convinced Preminger to give Raksin a weekend to compose an original tune. Furious, Preminger gave Raksin that weekend, but threatened him with dismissal in case he failed; ultimately, Preminger was so pleased with Raksin's score that he collaborated with him on four more films. The haunting theme can be heard throughout the film and this arrangement has been constructed from an exquisite choir and piano version by British composer Roderick Williams - vibraphone features quite extensively but cued as necessary if not available.
