Johann Strauss jr. wrote this quick polka in 1859 in Pavlovsk, Russia, located 30 kilometers south from St. Petersburg, the capital of the Russian Empire. It was dedicated to Prince Niko Dadiani of Mingrelia, a very appreciated guest at the Russian court. The first performance in Vienna was in November of that year. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg. In his Neue Melodien (New Melodies) Quadrille Johann Strauss jr. processed motifs from various Italian operas. These motifs are taken from Rigoletto,  La traviata, Ernani and Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi, Lucia di Lammermoor and La fille du régiment by Gaetano Donizetti and La sonnambula by  Vincenzo Bellini. The Csárdás is a typical Hungarian dance basing on folk music. But also art music has some famous examples, one of them is this csárdás from the comic  opera Ritter Pásmán (Knight Pásmán) by Johann Strauss jr. Its premiere was on 1 January 1892 at the Vienna Court opera. The arrangement is one half  tone lower than the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Wind Philharmonic  Mozarteum Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2019 and broadcasted live by Austrian  television. It was first performed in 1884 in the Vienna Volksgarten conducted by his youngest  brother Eduard.
