Satin Doll is a jazz standard written by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. Written in 1953, the song has been recorded by many artists, incluing Ella Fitzgerald, 101 Strings, Dewey Redman, Chicago and Nancy Wilson. Johnny Mercer was often asked to write lyrics to already popular songs; the yrics to Satin Doll were written after the song was a hit in its instrumental version. This arrangement has been adapted from the jazz ensemble version by John Edmondson, retaining a short trumpet solo and incorporating the piano parts into the clarinets and vibraphone. Ellington used Satin Doll as the closing number in most of his concerts, why not pay tribute to The Duke and do the same at your next event?

'Laura' is a 1944 American film noir produced and directed by Otto Preminger, starring Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews and Vincent Price. In 1999, 'Laura' was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant and the American Film Institute named it one of the 10 best mystery films of all time. Once the principal photography had been completed, Preminger hired David Raksin to score the film. The director wanted to use Sophisticated Lady by Duke Ellington for the main theme, but Raksin objected. Alfred Newman, music director for Fox, convinced Preminger to give Raksin a weekend to compose an original tune. Furious, Preminger gave Raksin that weekend, but threatened him with dismissal in case he failed; ultimately, Preminger was so pleased with Raksin's score that he collaborated with him on four more films. The haunting theme can be heard throughout the film and this arrangement has been constructed from an exquisite choir and piano version by British composer Roderick Williams - vibraphone features quite extensively but cued as necessary if not available.

Caravan is an American jazz standard that was composed by Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington and first performed by Ellington in 1936. Irving Mills wrote lyrics, but they are rarely sung. The song is featured prominently in the 2014 film Whiplash as an important plot element and over the years has been covered by diverse artists, such as Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis. 'Sophisticated Ladies' is a musical revue based on the music of Duke Ellington; the revue ran on Broadway in 1981–83, earning two awards and eight nominations at the 35th Tony Awards. This arrangement is based on a jazz ensemble chart by Michael Sweeney with short solos for tenor sax and trumpet (chords and suggested solo lines provided).

The Ellington band performed and recorded the song continuously throughout its 50 years, both in its original form and as a vehicle for individual soloists. The song was featured in a Broadway revue called 'Sophisticated Ladies' (running from 1981–83) earning two awards and eight nominations at the 35th Tony Awards. Mood Indigo is also featured in the films The Cotton Club (1984), The Untouchables (1987).  Harlem Nights (1989) and White Men Can't Jump (1992), among others. This arrangement has been adapted from the brass band version by Edrich Siebert.

During the journey, his page is about to give up the struggle against the cold weather, but is enabled to continue by following the king's footprints, step for step, through the deep snow. The legend is based on the life of the Saint Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia (907–935), who was not a king in his lifetime but had that status conferred on him after his death. In 1853, English hymnwriter John Mason Neale wrote the lyrics in collaboration with his music editor Thomas Helmore to fit the melody of the 13th-century spring carol Tempus adest floridum, which they had found in the 1582 Finnish song collection Piae Cantiones. It was dedicated to the regional office of the Freemasony that was headquartered in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. In the march, Carter used the hymn Onward Christians Soldiers by Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan as the melody for the trio, with the woodwinds providing the obbligato above the music. There have been many composers who were Masons; among them are Edward E. Bagley, W. Paris Chambers, Herbert L. Clarke, Merle Evans, Henry Fillmore, Karl L. King and John Philip Sousa.
