Josef Strauss, second born od the three Strauss brothers wrote this polka mazur in 1862 in Pavlovsk, Russia, located 30 kilometers south from St. Petersburg, the capital of the Russian Empire. It was first performed there in September 1862, followed by the first performance in Vienna in November of the same year. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg. Josef Hellmesberger jr. (1855 - 1907) shares not only the name with his father. Both were famous musicians and members of the Vienna Philharmonic as violonists, the son also as conductor with a preceding carreer as military bandmaster. He was also a highly talented composer. The Valse espagnole is an intermezzo from his ballet The Pearl of Iberia, which was premiered in 1902 at the Vienna Court Opera. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg and first performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their 2014 New Year's Concert on January 6th in Salzburg, Austria. Josef Strauss, second born od the three Strauss brothers wrote this quick polka in 1870 in Vienna to be first performed there in February 1870 at a ball in the Gartenbausäle, followed by a concert performance in the Vienna Musikverein in March.

This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg and first performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their 2014 New Year's Concert on January 6th in Salzburg, Austria.
