Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1139276 Composed by Ennio Morricone. Arranged by Juan José Peláez Vilanova. 20th Century,Film/TV. Score and parts. 47 pages. John Joseph #739559. Published by John Joseph (A0.1139276). The weight of Ennio Morriocone in the composition of film music in the second half of the s. XX is indisputable, in terms of innovation and production volume. The particular technique of treating the melodic cells will become a paradigm of his language, along with the use of innovative timbres, which were not common in the orchestral music of the time. The close collaboration with Sergio Leone during the 60s will contribute to consolidating him as a benchmark in the sound of the Western genre. After the success of the so-called Dollar Trilogy, Paramount Pictures asked Leone to repeat the formula before tackling other projects. This one, with a more generous budget, will start filming C'era una volta il West, an eclectic story in which all the characteristic elements of the genre are represented: the railroad, the gunslingers and bandits, the american pioneers, the woman of character indomitable and the enigmatic man in search of revenge. Leone again entrusted the soundtrack to Ennio Morricone, playing this one a fundamental role in the story. The present transcription incorporates the original sounds of the author, such as the harmonica, the electric and classical guitar, the harpsichord or the choir, in the ensemble of the concert band, seeking to achieve a greater sound fidelity with the score. Understanding the difficulty that having these resources can entail, the previous specific parts are of an optional nature, so that the arrangement also works without them, and also if any of the parts is incorporated independently of the rest.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.491689 Composed by Giacomo Puccini. Arranged by Juan José Peláez Vilanova. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Opera,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 34 pages. John Joseph #107228. Published by John Joseph (A0.491689). The style of Giacommo Puccini represents the union of Italian and German opera traditions, at the same time that, under the influence of Bizet and Massenet, tooks the taste for the exotic and historical location of his operas. This is the case of the opera Tosca, wich plot was inspired in the times of Napoleon’s invasion of Italy and the confrontation between liberals and monarchists. In the third act of this opera, Cavaradossi, sentenced to death and while he is a prisoner in the Castle of Sant'Angelo, evokes the intimate moments lived with his beloved Tosca, singing the aria E lucevan le stelle, as the night dissipates and slowly the time of its execution is approaching. This transcription for symphonic band takes advantage of the wind orchestra’s sound colors and resources to achieve both the intimate character of Cavaradossi’s thoughts and the intensity and frustration he ultimately shows against his inevitable fate.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1145793 Composed by Giacomo Puccini. Arranged by Juan José Peláez Vilanova. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Opera,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 43 pages. John Joseph #745992. Published by John Joseph (A0.1145793). Giacommo Puccini, represents the union of Italian and German opera traditions, greatly influenced by Verdi, of whom he is considered his successor, and also by Wagner, Bizet, and Debussy. The main feature of his style was the eclecticism, the incorporation and assimilation of various languages and resources in his profession. Many of the musical concepts, as well as the connection between music and the stage, were the harbinger of what would rule in film music a few decades later. Puccini tooks from the French opera, under the influence of Bizet and Massenet, the taste for the exotic and historical location of his operas. In the case of Turandot, set in ancient China, the opera tells the story of the cruel princess Turandot who, in revenge for a sullied ancestor, beheads her suitors if three riddles are not answered. An unknown prince –Calaf– postulates by answering her three enigmas and challenging her to be the one to find out her name. Turandot orders that no one sleep in Peking until the name of the prince is known, Calaf, who has issued the challenge that if his name is not discovered, princess Turandot must marry him. At the beginning of the third act, the prince sings the aria –Nessun Dorma– convinced that the princess's efforts to discover his name will be in vain. Puccini began the composition in January 1921 and in March 1924 he had already completed the opera up to the final duet. However, a few months later he would pass away, leaving unfinished sketches of the end of Turandot. Franco Alfano was commissioned to finish it, premiering it two years later, in 1926. Currently, it is the fourth most performed Puccini opera worldwide, after the well-known trio La Boheme, Tosca and Madama Butterfly.
