Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.723171 Composed by Hewitt, James. Arranged by Jacklich, Joel. Holiday,Patriotic,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 26 pages. Joel Jacklich #6222869. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723171). In 1817, James Hewitt set Francis Scott Key's poem The Defence of Fort M'Henry (which we now better know as The Star Spangled Banner).  Hewitt's original song gained some local popularity; however, throughout most of the country, people began singing the poet's words to a popular drinking song then known to many Americans, English composer John Stafford Smith's To Anacreon in Heaven (originally written for a popular gentleman's club of amateur musicians in London, the Anacreontic Society).  Whereas John Stafford Smith's music was borrowed for the poem, Hewitt's music was especially composed for the poem.  I was asked by Mitch Sturman, the band director of the Wilson Junior High School Warrior Band in El Centro, California, to arrange the original piano music for his band to play at his annual spring Concert of Premieres where he presented new works he had commissioned for his band from well-known band composers, and arrangements of neglected works he felt were worthy of performance.  This was one of those neglected worthy pieces by an American composer for an American poem.  It is orchestrated for flute, oboe, clarinets 1-3, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax, bassoon, French horn, trumpets 1-2, baritone horn, trombone, tuba, timpani, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, and glockenspiel. .

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1333010 Composed by Victor Rebullida. 21st Century,Comedy,Holiday,March. 27 pages. Victor Rebullida #919390. Published by Victor Rebullida (A0.1333010). With this composition I wanted to pay tribute to an artist who was famous in his time and fell into oblivion until recent times when his figure has been recovered by various research works.May this work serve as a vindication of the great Marceline. The piece has an optimistic character and in its nearly five minutes of duration I make nods to circus music and the atmosphere of the shows in which Marceline participated.Marceline is the stage name of Marcelino Orbés. He was a Spanish clown, mime, acrobat, comic actor and circus artist, with American nationality since 1922, who is considered the best clown in the world of his time.Marceline was Spanish artist born in 1873 who performed in several European countries. Around 1895 he had success at the London Hippodrome and then enticed by producers Thompson and Dundy to come to the New York Hippodrome, where he arrived with great fanfare in 1905. He was a part of shows at the Hippodrome through 1915, by which time his pantomime routine and falling gags were falling out of favor with the public. He did reappear at the Hippodrome for some later shows in 1920-21 and 1922-23.Attempts to succeed in the restaurant business in New York and Connecticut both failed, and he lost money in real estate ventures. Out of work and out of savings, Marceline was found dead by suicide in his hotel room on November 5, 1927, with photographs of his glory days on the bed.Marceline was long admired by Charlie Chaplin, who worked with Marceline at the London Hippodrome from December 1900 to April 1901, and is one of just a few performers from this period of his life that Chaplin discusses in his autobiography. Chaplin recounts seeing him years later in the United States with a circus, and though expecting to see him be a featured star, was surprised to see him only amongst other clowns.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1433990 By Albert Ketelbey. By Albert Ketelbey. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Multicultural,World. 85 pages. John Ivor Holland #1014221. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1433990). Albert William Ketèlbey (1875-1959) was an English composer, conductor and pianist, best known for his short pieces of light orchestral music. He was born in Birmingham and moved to London in 1889 to study at Trinity College of Music. After a brilliant studentship he did not pursue the classical career predicted for him, becoming musical director of the Vaudeville Theatre before gaining fame as a composer of light music and as a conductor of his own works. One of his earliest works in the genre, 'In a Monastery Garden' (1915), sold over a million copies and brought him to widespread notice; his later musical depictions of exotic scenes caught the public imagination and established his fortune. Such works as 'In a Persian Market' (1920), 'In a Chinese Temple-Garden' (1923), and 'In the Mystic Land of Egypt' (1931) became best-sellers in print and on records; by the late 1920s he was Britain's first millionaire composer. Ketèlbey's popularity began to wane during the Second World War and his originality also declined; many of his post-war works were re-workings of older pieces and he increasingly found his music ignored by the BBC. In 1949 he moved to the Isle of Wight, where he spent his retirement, and he died at home in obscurity. On the last night of the 2009 Proms season, the orchestra performed his 'In a Monastery Garden', marking the fiftieth anniversary of Ketèlbey's death—the first time his music had been included in the festival's finale. This arrangement of 'In a Chinese Temple-Garden' has been created with the modern concert band in mind and is sensitively cross-cued for smaller ensembles.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.733027 Composed by Charles Edward Duble. Arranged by Marc Oliver. 20th Century. Score and parts. 53 pages. Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings #2347281. Published by Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings (A0.733027). Every genre of music has its one-hit wonders-composers or performers who are forever known for just one piece of music. In classical music, two composers come to mind: Johann Pachebel for his Canon in D and Emil Reznecek for his overture to Donna Diana. I am certain that they have written a lot more music, but we only know them for the above-mentioned works. The same is true in wind band music. The composer in question is one, Charles E. Duble. His one big hit is his circus march, Bravura. One of his lesser known marches is Wizard of the West. It was originally written in 1908 and dedicated To A. R. Wheeler, Musical Director, Howes Great London Shows. To this day, however, this occidental expert remains a mystery because he has not come out from behind the curtains. However, the western wizard does make his presence known in the euphonium section-especially in the trio.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1035592 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.). Romantic Period. Score and parts. 76 pages. Joel Jacklich #640816. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.1035592). PROGRAM NOTE: Rosemary - That's for remembrance.... In 1882, Sir Edward Elgar jotted down in his musical notebook a piano piece he titled Douce Pensée (Sweet Thought). There it remained until 1913 when he got it out again, revised it slightly, re-titled it Rosemary - That's for remembrance, and published it for the first time. The title comes from Ophelia's Garland Speech in Shakespeare's Hamlet, where she says, There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember. In 1915, the First World War had been raging in Europe for a year, and many British composers and poets had turned to artistic means to mourn those who died in the trenches of across the Channel. Elgar orchestrated the work at that time. In 1925, London publisher W. Paxton published arrangements by C. Jenkins made for brass and reed band and for military band; however, these are now out of print and no longer available. In the fall of 2015, Mitch Sturman, director of the Wilson Junior High School Warrior Band in El Centro, California, asked me to make an arrangement of Rosemary for the Eighth Annual Concert of Premieres, a series Sturman had begun in 2008, commissioning new works by known composers, and commissioning new arrangements of pieces he felt were worthy works in the public domain that were no longer in print and/or were written for ensembles containing instruments no longer part of the standard modern band or orchestra. INSTRUMENTATION: Flute I (4), Flute II (4), Oboe (1), Clarinet I (4), Clarinet II (4), Clarinet III (4), Bass Clarinet (1), Bassoon (1), Alto Saxophone (4), Tenor Saxophone (2), Baritone Saxophone (1); Trumpet I (3), Trumpet II (3), French Horn (2), Baritone Horn T.C. Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1374473 Composed by Margaret Ada Sutherland. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical. 65 pages. John Ivor Holland #959081. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1374473). Margaret Ada Sutherland (20 November 1897 – 12 August 1984) was an Australian composer, among the best-known female musicians her country has produced. A student of Sir Arnold Bax in London during the 1920s, Sutherland wrote pieces in almost all forms, but particularly concentrated on the genre of chamber music. Her major works include a symphony, concertos for various instruments, a symphonic poem entitled Haunted Hills (1953), and a chamber opera. A severe stroke in 1969 ended her composing career. This short 'Movement' is subtitled 'Canzonetta' and dates from 1959. Arranged from the original hand-drawn orchestral manuscript as part of a project to expand the worldwide repertoire of music by women composers for concert band.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.939467 Composed by Charles Villiers Stanford. Arranged by David Hawkins. Romantic Period,Sacred. Score and parts. 30 pages. David Hawkins #3035299. Published by David Hawkins (A0.939467). This transcription of a Latin motet would work well as a warmup. The notes are easy but the lines are hard. This encourages listening between sections. As a 6-part motet, every part is doubled by another part of the band.Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (30 September 1852 – 29 March 1924) was an Irish composer, music teacher, and conductor. He composed a substantial number of concert works, including seven symphonies, but his best-remembered pieces are his choral works for church performance, chiefly composed in the Anglican tradition. Beati quorum via (Blessed are those whose way), Op. 38, No. 3, is a motet for mixed unaccompanied six-part choir by Charles Villiers Stanford, a setting of the first verse of Psalm 119 in Latin. It is the last of Stanford's Three Latin Motets, published in 1905.Stanford composed it at the end of the 19th century when he was a teacher at the Royal College of Music in London. Paul J. Rodmell wrote in his review of R. J. Stowe's book Stanford education: his finest unaccompanied motets, such as Beati quorum via, attain neo-Brucknerian sublimity, comparing Stanford's work to that of Hubert Parry and Anton Bruckner.
