Using exotic rhythms in the  percussion score, Scenes From Samburu takes the listener on a vivid African adventure.  It's easy enough for your first concert of the year, with quarter notes in the winds and eighth notes in the percussion. A couple blue notes are thrown in for color, and the tom-tom effect in the percussion lends a jungle flavor to the piece. The interplay between the wind players and the percussion will make your young players sound like an accomplished ensemble.
