The song takes place at a famous market fair in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England during Medieval times. Although the historical Scarborough Fair no longer takes place, some British communities still celebrate the original event in September.  Using the Dorian mode, this folk song often invokes both beauty and mystery. This arrangement is a theme and variations and is conceived as a mysterious adventure (programmatic Information for each section contained within the score).

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1091230 By Masakazu YAMAMOTO. By Claude Debussy. Arranged by Masakazu YAMAMOTO. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Pop. 14 pages. Motch Music #695394. Published by Motch Music (A0.1091230). Arrangement for concert band. This is the third song of Suite â€Bergamasque composed by Claude Debussy around 1890. Written in the style of nocturne, it is one of the most famous songs in Debussy's work. And also it is often featured as a repertoire among classical pianos as a whole. In this arrangement, while respecting the original song, bold “reharmonization†(change of chord) is applied. And further, an opening section as fade-in effect and an ending section extending the aftertaste time are added. All of them are used for creating new attractive of this song. And, I am also inspired by the title “A sentimental promenade which had been named at the time of publication in 1900-1901. There are many weak sounds throughout this song, but each phrase requires a rich expression centered on romanticism. At the same time, it is also important for the phrase to be passed down smoothly, and especially in the middle part, a flowing propulsion is required. I hope that those elements will be organically linked to the harmony taste, which is the key to this arrangement. Commissioned by conductor Keiko Kobayashi, and the Sony Concert Band. Premiered on July 2, 2022. Playing time: about 5'30(arr. Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1433990 By Albert Ketelbey. By Albert Ketelbey. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Multicultural,World. 85 pages. John Ivor Holland #1014221. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1433990). Albert William Ketèlbey (1875-1959) was an English composer, conductor and pianist, best known for his short pieces of light orchestral music. He was born in Birmingham and moved to London in 1889 to study at Trinity College of Music. After a brilliant studentship he did not pursue the classical career predicted for him, becoming musical director of the Vaudeville Theatre before gaining fame as a composer of light music and as a conductor of his own works. One of his earliest works in the genre, 'In a Monastery Garden' (1915), sold over a million copies and brought him to widespread notice; his later musical depictions of exotic scenes caught the public imagination and established his fortune. Such works as 'In a Persian Market' (1920), 'In a Chinese Temple-Garden' (1923), and 'In the Mystic Land of Egypt' (1931) became best-sellers in print and on records; by the late 1920s he was Britain's first millionaire composer. Ketèlbey's popularity began to wane during the Second World War and his originality also declined; many of his post-war works were re-workings of older pieces and he increasingly found his music ignored by the BBC. In 1949 he moved to the Isle of Wight, where he spent his retirement, and he died at home in obscurity. On the last night of the 2009 Proms season, the orchestra performed his 'In a Monastery Garden', marking the fiftieth anniversary of Ketèlbey's death—the first time his music had been included in the festival's finale. This arrangement of 'In a Chinese Temple-Garden' has been created with the modern concert band in mind and is sensitively cross-cued for smaller ensembles.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028005 Composed by Becca Schack. Contemporary,Folk,World. Score and parts. 111 pages. Ingenue Music #3140847. Published by Ingenue Music (A0.1028005). Commissioned by The Association for Music in International Schools AMIS. Premiered in Bangkok, Thailand in January 2011, conducted by Dimosthenis Dimitrakoulakos. Program Notes: The image of Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, kept reappearing in my mind as the main focus for this piece. According to myth, the islands of Hawaii owe their existence to Pele who ran away from her jealous sister, a sea goddess, to these tiny islands. Her sister sent tidal waves and Pele answered by sending fiery lava into the ocean, making new land as it cooled. The spirit of Pele lives on in the craters of the volcano, watching over the islands, reminding us that fiery eruptions and emotional upheavals are followed by new life and change. Pele, unpredictable and powerful, makes her entrance with a loud bang of brass and percussion, followed by the entire ensemble joining in. As the trumpets trail off, words from the ancient Hawaiian chant E Pele, E Pele are heard moving between each section in contrasting rhythms, as the tuba and low brass unfold the main theme. This chant is performed in Hawaiian culture accompanied by hula kahiko, an ancient style of hula dancing. The vibraphone plays a tranquil melody reminiscent of a Hawaiian wind chime softly blowing in the wind. The congas and rainstick evokes a tribal element. The piece is meant to juxtapose the multi-faceted natures of Pele. Syncopated rhythms in the winds paired with big brass and percussion represent her passion and violent temper. The playful, quiet, lingering sections led by the flute and vibraphone represent her irresistible and enchanting mystery as she creates new land and the living things that inhabit these magnificent islands.
