Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024060 Composed by John Dorhauer. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and Parts. 126 pages. John J Dorhauer #59173. Published by John J Dorhauer (A0.1024060). Back to School 2015 This standalone movement balances chaotic, breakneck ensemble writing with placid, luscious quieter moments. Inspired by the fifth chapter of the Book of Revelation, the music vividly depicts the duality of the lion/lamb character (hence the plurality of the title), and the ample use of mixed meter and solo opportunities (particularly for flute and percussion) will offer an engaging challenge to most high school ensembles. Although this is the middle movement of a three-movement work, it works in its own self-contained world. Contact information: johnjdorhauer@gmail.com PRO: ASCAP Social Media: https://www.facebook.com/JohnDorhauer?fref=ts / https://twitter.com/JohnDorhauer Duration: 9 minutes Year of Release: 2011 Program Notes: This composition is intended to function on two different levels: it is simultaneously a programmatic depiction of the events that unfold in Revelation 5 and a musical representation of the duality found in the scripture. It was this sense of duality that persuaded me to keep the s at the end of Revelation in the title – it is as if there are multiple revelations to be found within both the scripture and my musical interpretation of it. In the book of Revelation, the prophet John is sharing an apocalyptic vision to a group of churches in Asia as a means of hope – even though these people were being persecuted for their beliefs, John promises the rapture in which God will save the believers and destroy the nonbelievers. The fifth chapter begins with John’s ascension to heaven, and it concludes just before the Christ-like Lion of Judah breaks the seals of the scroll that will unleash the rapture. While this is intended to be a message of hope, it will also bring about cataclysmic death and destruction. Herein lies the duality – how can a message of hope come as the result of such a violent outcome? Movement II (of three) corresponds with only verse 6, and it is more of a character study than a programmatic narrative. It examines the Lion of Judah character, which is portrayed at first as an overwhelming and aggressive figure after it approaches from the distance in the hazy beginning section. This character is also depicted in the scripture as a lamb, though, and this is reflected in the piece’s latter half, which is a softer reimagining of the Lion character’s material. The Lion and the Lamb are not two different characters but, rather, different sides of the same character. It is this duality that drives the movement, and it explains the connections between these otherwise distinct sections. This movement was originally performed by the CCPA Wind Ensemble in April 2010 when it received first place in CCPA’s wind ensemble composition contest.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.886122 Composed by Jason McChristian. Contemporary. Score and parts. 137 pages. Jason Gary McChristian #552441. Published by Jason Gary McChristian (A0.886122). This work is comprised of three series, each series contains four issues. It may be performed in a number of different ways; each issue or series may be performed separately or, the entire work, consisting of twelve issues and a Prologue, may be performed as a whole. In its entirety, the running time of Strange Myths and Wondrous Images is approximately forty-five minutes. Each issue represents an element: either an archetype, place, or an emotion, commonly found in comic book stories. As a whole, Strange Myths and Wondrous Images tells a particular story arc, one that is intentionally void of specific details, inviting the listener to imagine the particulars. Each series also contains its own sub-plot and emotional progression, while the formal structure suggests the traditional symphonic form. Each issue has a duration of three to four minutes, limited to a small, but intensely expressive amount of thematic material. The challenge inherent in this limitation was to create enough contrast, yet not so much as to require more time to resolve it, therefore, each issue is self-contained. It is agrade 3 band piece with a duration of five minutes. It is published by Musica Nova USA and availableon sheetmusicplus.com and jwpepper.com.Performance Notes: Set Free to go Home was composed with flexible instrumentation in mind. There are several instruments listed in the score that would enhance the piece (such as harp, oboes, double bass, ect.) but are not necessary to convey a successful performance. For example, if there are not five percussionists available, the piece may be played by less performers with the use of a drumkit, with one person playing two or more parts. This composition can sound very good whether thereare fifteen players or a band with one hundred players.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer and conductor. Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: A0.917412 Composed by Gregory Fritze. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 370 pages. Musica Nova USA #6321277. Published by Musica Nova USA (A0.917412). The Four Seasons in the Basque Country is a 4 movement symphony for concert band. It is the Third Prize Winner of the 2020 American Prize in Composition - Concert Band. Grade 5, duration 27 minutes. The piece depicts four different places in the Basque country that the composer feels best show the changes of season. The first movement is Winter in the Costa Norte (Galerna). Galerna is on the northerncoast and is subject to harsh storms in the winter. As the piece starts off with a light-hearted dance in thepiccolo, a storm is approaching from afar. At first the storm seems to be in the distance but as it comes closer it overtakes the festivities in a bluster. For a short time two conductors are needed as the concertband is split into two groups – one showing the light-hearted dance led by the piccolo, the other thecacophony of the storm led by the percussion. The storm overtakes everything as it ends the movement with a flourish. The second movement Spring in Rioja Alavesa is a calming contrast to the first movement like the freshness of a spring day. The sun rises and shines beams of light onto the acres of grape vines. After a timea short rain comes to refresh and clean the plants. The third movement Autumn at the Guggenheim Museum is in a traditional 3rd movement form of a symphony, minuet and trio, but the harmonies sometimes use bitonality, having the melody in one key while the accompaniment is in another to suggest surrealism. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbaois one of the world’s most famous museums, not only for the surreal art inside, but also because of the architecture of the building itself. The fourth movement Summer in Bilbao is based on a dance melody composed in the Ezpata- dantza Basque style. It employs a rhythmic element with alternating 6/8 and 3â„4 meters where the eighth notes are basically equal, but in the dance the 3â„4 meter is actually a little bit longer. This type of subtlemanipulation of rhythm is used similarly in the Viennese Waltz, when the 3rd beat would be stretched outto accommodate the dancers. The Ezpata-dantza dance continues until the Altza Gastiak, the officialsong of the Bilbao Athletic Club, the local soccer team of Bilbao, is heard. After this the Ezpata-dantzamelody is transformed from a happy dance to a triumphant melody and rousing finale. In The Four Seasons in the Basque Country all of the themes are original except for the short excerpt ofAltza Gastiakin the 4th movement. Some themes are composed in the style of Basque folk dances.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over one hundred compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe that have been performed extensively throughout the world. Many of his compositions are available on ITunes, Youtube and Soundcloud. He has been a frequent traveler to Spain since 1993 and has promoted compositions by Spanishcomposers around the world. He is the only composer who has been commissioned six times by Spanishbands for Certamen competitions, with each band winning first prize. His compositions are recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Recordsand others. Large Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522130 Composed by Ditlev Ludvig Rogert (1742-1813) and Hans Ernst Krøyer (1798 -1879). Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contemporary. Score and parts. 37 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3428555. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522130). Denmark has two national anthems. The first, Der er et yndigt land (There is a lovely land) is the civil national anthem and the most frequently performed. When it was first published in 1819, the anthem had twelve verses but today it has been significantly shortened. The dotted rhythm in measure 15 (in Parts 1 and 2) is sometimes played as two equal eighth notes (quavers). The second anthem, Kong Christian stod ved højen mast (King Christian stood by the lofty mast) has equal status but is mainly used for royal and military occasions. At such times, it is either performed alone or the two anthems are played together. Known simply as Kong Christian it is traditionally sung in Denmark immediately after midnight every New Year's Eve. The audio sample contains the first, more popular anthem. These quick and easy national anthem arrangements are essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! This arrangement is in six independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you’ll need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick 'n' mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. Note that this anthem is virtually identical to the anthem of Finland. There is a minor difference in part of the melody and the repeat structure is different. This arrangement consists of a four-page score with seven instrumental staves and three percussion staves. The following parts are printed on separate pages. The score and all the parts are contained in the same pdf file. Part 1 in B flat (clarinet, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, soprano sax); Part 1 in C (glockenspiel, violin); Part 1 in E flat (alto sax, E flat clarinet); Part 1a in C (octave above concert for flute, piccolo, oboe, violin) and Part 1a in E flat (E flat cornet in brass band). Note the parts in Kong Kristian go a bit too low for flute and oboe, so Parts 1a or 2a should be used instead. Part 2 in B flat (clarinet, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, soprano sax); Part 2 in C (flute, oboe, violin); Part 2 in E flat (alto sax); Part 2a in C (octave above concert pitch for flute, oboe, violin); Part 2a in B flat for clarinets; Part 2a in E flat (minor 3rd below concert for E flat alto clarinet). Part 3 in B flat (tenor saxophone, B flat baritone); Part 3 in C (bass clef for trombone, bassoon); Part 3 in C alto (alto clef for viola); Part 3 in E flat        (tenor horn, alto sax); Part 3 in F (French horn);  Part 3a in B flat (8ve below concert for 3rd clarinets in band). Part 4 in B flat (tenor sax, baritone); Part 4 in C (bass clef for trombone, euphonium, bassoon, cello); Part 4 in E flat (tenor horn, alto sax); Part 4 in F (French horn). Part 5 in B flat (baritone); Part 5 in C (bass clef for trombone, euphonium, bassoon. Part 6 in B flat (B flat bass, bass clarinet); Part 6 in C (bass clef for bass trombone, bassoon, contrabassoon, tuba, double bass); Part 6 in E flat  (E flat bass, baritone sax). There’s also a part for timpani, percussion (3 players) and a piano reduction.

Chill out with this selection intended for first-year players, Time Out. Written with the first 4 notes of the A minor blues scale in mind, and using only 6 different notes, younger players will find instant success when learning its catchy bass line and repeated rhythms.Time Out can be performed by a minimal concert ensemble of flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and percussion, and uses the A minor blues scale (A, C, D, E♭). I am incredibly excited to offer this selection to you in a effort to diversify concert band music repertoire for younger player that avoids using typical key signatures, but does not veer too far away from standard practices. It is suggested that players practice playing the first few notes of the concert B♭ scale (B♭, C, D, E♭), then swapping out concert B♭ for concert A. Make sure measures 1-3 are accurately learned by the wind players before learning the rest of the piece. In measure 39, there is a glissando, or “fall†that might be seen in jazz music. (The playback does not support accurate sounds for this effect.) Have players find a random high note, then all descend to the low register of their instruments within 4 beats through fingerings, slides, etc.View more of my catalog here at linktr.ee/jamessmithmusic.

Ohne Sorgen (Without Cares), a Polka schnell (Quick Polka) by Josef Strauss, younger brother of the famous king of waltz Johann jr., was composed in 1869,while  passing the summer with the Strauss orchestra in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg, Russia. It was premiered there on 10 September 1869. As a special feature of this piece,  laughing by the musicians is demanded at certain points in the Trio. This is more difficult to execute with a wind band, as wind players can't laugh and play  simultaneously like string players.  The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra.
