The song is a cover, having previously been performed by Rufus and didn't chart very highly, although the album eventually was certified Gold. It is primarily known as being sampled for the 1995 hit The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall into My Mind) by The Bucketheads, the 2009 hit I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) by Pitbull and the 2013 remix by dance music producer Tradelove. The original recording featured a long trumpet solo by Maynard Ferguson; this arrangement, however, has been shortened, although still packing a punch with its distinctive brass lines - it should still be accessible to most bands with some careful rehearsal to get the rhythms together and should be a sure-fire hit with your audience.

The alto sax has a couple of split measures to reinforce the trills but supports the horn line for the rest of the march. The tenor sax supports the horn part when the altos have the trills. The ranges are within most 1st-year players and easily within 2nd-year players range. The 2nd Clarinet never goes above the break. The trills for all woodwinds (fountains) are easy trills for younger players.Brass—Only the trumpet part is split and it is rhythmically unison throughout. Low brass/woodwinds are mostly entirely unison throughout the piece. Like the WW’s, all parts are playable by 1st-year players. Percussion uses a standard concert march instrumentation. When I arranged this, I only had early elementary clarinet players so that part is entirely written below the break. It can be taken up an octave for more advanced players. It Is Well With My Soul is a hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. First published in Gospel Songs No. 2 by Ira Sankey and Bliss (1876), it is possibly the most influential and enduring in the Bliss repertoire and is often taken as a choral model, appearing in hymnals of a wide variety of Christian fellowships. Horatio Spafford's original lyrics are included below.
