Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Richard Byrnes. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 132 pages. Richard Byrnes #4895917. Published by Richard Byrnes (A0.830750).
Suite Bergamasque was composed around 1890. It was then revised and published in 1905. The title is derived from the city of Bergamo in the Italian Alps and serves as a tribute to French Baroque harpsichordists. It is comprised of 4 movements: Prélude, Menuet, Clair de lune, and Passepied.
The passepied was a dance originating in Brittany. Debussy’s appreciation of the medieval practice of using open 4ths and 5ths is worked out eloquently in this very expressive movement.
In addition to works by Debussy, we offer works by J.S. Bach, Fauré, Glinka, Gottschalk, Granados, Lotti, Mozart, Ravel, Richard Strauss, and Turina.
