Composed by James Johnston Stewart and Sergei Prokofiev. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Film/TV,Opera. Score and Parts. 42 pages. John Ivor Holland #875802. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1284630).

L'amour des trois oranges, Op. 33, is a satirical French-language opera by Sergei Prokofiev. He wrote his own libretto, basing it on the Italian play L'amore delle tre melarance, or The Love for Three Oranges by Carlo Gozzi, and conducted the premiere, which took place at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on 30 December 1921. The 'March' was used by CBS in the radio-drama series 'The FBI in Peace and War' from 1944 to 1958 and also by Prokofiev himself in his ballet, 'Cinderella'. This arrangement uses all the colour of today's symphonic band and would make an excellent programme item in a concert of opera music.

One of the strangest titles and I'm not going to tell you I know what it means! This is the march from Sergei Prokofiev's opera of the same name. Arranged for concert band, it has very quirky melodies and harmonies. It's listed as a grade 3 due to the short length. The ranges and rhythms are very playable for most groups. It's the intervals, harmonies, and tunings that make it more difficult for younger groups to play.
