The story concerns a junior executive at an insurance company who seeks to climb the corporate ladder by allowing his apartment to be used by his married superiors for trysts. The song 'Promises, Promises' happens right towards the end of the musical where things pretty much have fallen apart, made perfectly clear in the music by very agitated meter changes and angular harmonies. Released in 1968, the song was featured on an album by Dionne Warwick shortly before the musical debuted on Broadway and has since been covered by other artists, including Sean Hayes as part of the 2010 revival production.

Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this initially to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not tricky, but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and, indeed, instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and reverberation for maximum effect. Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was the first to indicate them, such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He, therefore, developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He indeed used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Indeed, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, followed by a group response. Sometimes there was probably a third group near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. Because they could be appropriately situated, the instruments could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper can, in contrast, sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets and his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) seem to move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, the instruments are an essential part of the presentation, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – called Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

It was released as the third single from their third studio album, Love (1987). Released as a single in 1988, the track peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart and became a top-40 hit in Australia and Ireland. Songwriter Roddy Frame said in 2014 that the song has been great for him, but at the time of creating the album, the song was not in keeping with the other songs. Around this time, Frame had become somewhat of a recluse, living in a remote wooden shack in Hollywood, Marple Bridge, in the hills above Manchester, going through periods of good and bad mental health, while continuing to write music, including the lyric from Westwood to Hollywood in the song. The distinctive saxophone sound is retained and towards the end is an opportunity for your star alto and tenor to solo or battle, to close out the song in the way that it is often performed live by Aztec Camera. The song is featured prominently in the 2019 film '47 Meters Down: Uncaged' and the 2020 Netflix series 'I Am Not Okay with This'.

Gioacchino Rossini composed the music 1835  originally for solo voice and piano. It is part of his song cycle Les soirées musicales with twelve pieces by various poets. This version was orchestrated and  arranged in the key of A minor as prefered by prominent tenors like Luciano Pavarotti. It was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind  Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2017 at the Grosses Festspielhaus  (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria. The solo part was sung by Thai born tenor Nutthaporn Thammathi. If I Can't Have You is a classic disco song written by the Bee Gees in 1977; it initially appeared on the multi-platinum 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack in a version by Yvonne Elliman, released in November that year. The Bee Gees' own version appeared a month later as the B-side of Stayin' Alive. Elliman was originally going to perform How Deep Is Your Love, as she was known as a ballad singer, but the Bee Gees' manager, Robin Stigwood, decided to swap things around. Stigwood's decision proved a success as the soundtrack's first single, the Bee Gees' version of How Deep Is Your Love, shot to number one, followed to the top spot by the soundtrack's second and third singles, also by the Gibb brothers, Stayin' Alive and Night Fever. Elliman's If I Can't Have You, produced by disco pioneer Freddie Perren, was released as the fourth single off the 'Saturday Night Fever' album in February 1978. The song was covered by 80's star Kim Wilde in 1993 and charted well in several countries, along with a later version by Jess Glynne in 2016.

'Watermark' is the title track from the second studio album by Irish singer, songwriter and musician Enya, released on 19 September 1988, recorded in ten months with her long-time collaborators, manager, producer and arranger Nicky Ryan and his wife, lyricist Roma Ryan. Four singles were released from the album, including the massive worldwide hit, 'Orinoco Flow', which put Enya and her signature-style music on the map from then on. The title 'Watermark' is derived from a poem Roma was writing at the time of recording, which inspired her to name the track accordingly; however, the track was kept as an instrumental and the poem was left unused. This gentle piece can be used for a moment of quiet reflection in a concert, or perhaps a church setting to accompany a devotional or memorial tribute.
