Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.993114 Arranged by Peyton T. Starkweather. African,Contemporary,Spiritual. Score and parts. 33 pages. Starkweather Arts Publications #3686107. Published by Starkweather Arts Publications (A0.993114). This piece is intended for Field Opera: an orchestral Marching Band featuring theatre, ballet, and strings. This piece is elegant and suited for Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and of course, Marching Band. The piece is one minute long and is meant to be suited next to other Egyptian features, such as the other movement of The Sands of Time. In the second movement of The Sands of Time, we further into Egyptian mythology with a cross arrangement of Go Down Moses, an African American Spiritual about the Harriet Tubman, whose codename was Moses among the slaves at the time and Aquarium, by Camille Saint-Saens from Carnival of The Animals. At the surface level, the concepts of these pieces have nothing in common, but musically, their melodies are quite similar. The piece is beautiful and catchy, despite its literal and lyrical meanings, although we can use this as a tool to delve from our time into an Egyptian fantasy.Audio Link:https://soundcloud.com/charmonicmajor/go-down-moses

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.885226 Composed by Kathryn Ellis. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 68 pages. Ellis #3620111. Published by Ellis (A0.885226). El Camino Real (The Kings Highway) was a trail first established by the Spanish in the 1700's, along which the Franciscan fathers traveled to establish missions. In the 1800's it was used as a stagecoach route by settlers. This piece is a musical depiction of the stagecoach ride which originated in Mexico, came through San Antonio and Austin, passed through the hill country of Texas and continued through Louisiana, ending in Mississippi. The trail crossed 12 rivers, including the Rio Grande. El Camino Real from A Texas Symphony is also stand alone piece, and is about 12 minutes in length.. The music begins with a Spanish flair in Mexico, features a beautiful sunrise over the river, hill country bird calls, travels in the coach through the city of Fredericksburg incorporating a polka theme, and then travels out the state.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1183999 By Wesley Besancon. By Wesley Besancon. Arranged by Wesley Besancon. Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,Patriotic,World. Score and parts. 111 pages. Wesley Besancon #783697. Published by Wesley Besancon (A0.1183999). Have you ever wondered who was credited for setting up the first Thanksgiving? Or who braught peace to the tension between Natives and English? Squanto is credited for doing both of these things. One of the first recoreded Native Americans, Squanto lived from 1585 to 1622. He was part of the Patuxet tribe, and taught settlers how to satisfy basic needs. And as far as the eye can see, there is no band music dedicated for him. So I have made a piece showing what may have happened when the settlers came. While not completly accurate, It is a great representation (and honor to Squanto) for your next concert!. The piece begins on a nice warm day, in a playful, dancelike movement, this quickly turns to anger as they see a bird that is not able to be hunted. This confusion leads to the mysteriousness that was most likely happening upon the natives. They start to pray to their gods. All of a sudden, the ship lands and a war breaks out! But Squanto wants to embrace this new culture they have brought, which slowly calms the fighting down. Eventually, the English Culture (represented by Hot Cross Buns) is embraced in the polytonal ways (disagreement). The final part is a chorale representing peace.Errata: 107: Singing is stopped.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1496270 Composed by Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Jazz,Standards. 532 pages. John Ivor Holland #1072809. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1496270). The Nutcracker Suite is an interpretation of the music from Tchaikovsky's 1892 ballet by American pianist, composer and bandleader Duke Ellington and his long-time collaborator and orchestrator, Billy Strayhorn. Recorded for Columbia Records in 1960, it features jazz interpretations of nine movements from the original work in various styles and in a slightly different order, including more exotic instruments than would normally be found in the jazz ensemble:Overture Toot Toot Tootie Toot (Dance of the Reed-Pipes)Peanut Brittle Brigade (March)Sugar Rum Cherry (Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy)Entr'acteVolga Vouty (Russian Dance)Chinoiserie (Chinese Dance)Dance of the Floreadores (Waltz of the Flowers)Arabesque Cookie (Arabian Dance)Now fully arranged for concert band, without piano (as Ellington didn't actually play very much on the original recording) this is a difficult work, but players and audiences will love it - starring roles are given to most of the band at various points and the original solos played by the Ellington orchestra have been included for authenticity but chords added as well, should your players wish to make their own music. The Oboe part doubles Cor Anglais in a few movements, but this is cued if not available and important moments are also sensitively cross-cued throughout should the ensemble not be complete - absolutely essential, however, are the drums and bass, who are ever-present throughout and provide the beating heart of the work. An excellent choice for Christmas, of course, but could come out at any time of year. Also available separately:Peanut Brittle Brigade:https://www.sheetmusicdirect.com/en-US/se/ID_No/1602903/Product.aspxSugar Rum Cherry:https://www.sheetmusicdirect.com/en-US/se/ID_No/1602888/Product.aspxDance of the Floreadores:https://www.sheetmusicdirect.com/en-US/se/ID_No/1602867/Product.aspx.

Concert band - Grade 4 - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CBS172-S Composed by Jordan Eismeier. Score. 15 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CBS172-S. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CBS172-S). 9 x 12 in inches. This piece was originally composed for full orchestra as the sixth and final movement of my own second symphony Double Cross which musically chronicles the life and death of a man whose name has become synonymous with betrayal: Judas Iscariot. In the book of Matthew, chapter 27:1-10, Judas returns the blood money and hangs himself; the chief priests used the money and bought the Potter's field which became known as the Field of Blood, a burial place for strangers. This elegy for Judas is the haunting memoir of a traitor.Elegy is a piece just shy of seven minutes whose challenge is not in technical facility but rather in musical nuance. It gives many instruments opportunities to shine individually and in chamber-like settings, and it also challenges players to listen to the musical interactions in the fuller sections. Several specialty instruments are marked ad. lib., such as Eb clarinet, English horn, contrabassoon, double bass, and while they are optional, they sometimes do have prominent parts (especially English horn), but all optional instruments are either doubled or marked for cues when featured [NOTE: For ease of score reading, cues are not written out in the score; they are only cited on the appropriate lines]. So their presence is useful, but their absence is not prohibitive. Also, the score calls for some challenging ranges in the first horn, first bassoon and first/second trombones. These passages are marked with optional 8vb's, and the first bassoon and trombone have the opportunity to play a short passage in tenor clef. The timpani part includes suggested drum tunings, and it gives ample time and direction for the few pitch changes are required. The vibraphone part (Perc. 1) does employ four-mallet technique in places, but if this is not feasible (this would be a good piece in which to start learning it), the score specifies that Perc. 1 may be played on a piano instead. Percussion 3 calls for crotales, but in their absence, the glockenspiel may be used, and Perc. 3 already has that. The optional double bass part makes use of notes requiring a C extension, but it also gives optional small notes an octave higher in case the bassist has no C extension (which is likely). So in all, this piece offers plenty of challenges, but it also comes with optional escapes to help make it more accessible to more bands.Elegy-Field of Blood will challenge the musicality of good high school and college bands while still being a respectable member of professional repertoire. Its major performance challenges can be circumvented without terribly compromising the musicality, but they are available for maximum musical impact.

Published by Hambone Music (A0.1440627). The final movement of the 'Peebles Beltane Festival Suite' is rousing quick march, based upon the traditional Beltane Festal Song theme from the small town of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. The Beltane Fetstival which is celebrated every year has been going for almost 200 years. The words to the traditional festal song are:At Beltane in the aulden time, it was the custom gay, To gather on the village green and hail the festal day, Huntsman gallant and sheperds grey, dought and blythsome men, And Lassies blooming fresh and fair cam liltin’ doon the glen, Through the greenwood haste away,... Sing aloud the festal lay, Busk the the Beltane banner gay, to Peblis and the play. Auld Neidpath, grim and grey wi’ years, looks doon wi war-scarred face, And sentinels our royal toun wi’ majesty and grace, Loyal sons of a fearless race, gather we here today,And sing the auld-warld round-e-lay of ‘Peblis to the Play’, Wave the Beltane banner high, Ring the anthem to the sky, While our silver stream rolls by, The Tweeddale glen for aye.Across the wild foam-crested wave, in distant lands of fame, The exile oft wi’ pride recalls the dear auld Border hame, And while we crown our Beltane queen, ‘mid flaming skies of June, We pledge the leal hearts far a-wa and lilt our festal tune, Honour is our watchword clear, Truth our dauntless halberdier,Liberty’s our heralds cheer, Long live our Beltane Queen.

Some of my favorite memories as a student in public school band include performing various arrangements of J.S. Bach. I loved sitting in the trumpet section listening across the ensemble to how the various melodic lines would rapidly fizz around from instrument to instrument. This short, two movement work is designed to foster this listening experience in your students. The first movement consists of a simple binary form, with woodwinds and brass trading off a slow melodic line. The ensemble then combines to allow for the exploration of top to bottom, back to front balance and blend without having to worry about too much technique. There are also moments of modernity in the harmonic structure designed to help anchor the movement to the present. The second movement is a fugue with a long melodic subject and two countersubjects, the point of which is to apply the listening lessons from the first movement to the more technical aspects of the second. Fugue subjects are announced with percussion entrances to focus the listening experience across the ensemble and the audience.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1357096 By Nejc BeÄan. By Nejc BeÄan. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 340 pages. UpBeat Editions #941723. Published by UpBeat Editions (A0.1357096). Divertimento actually got its title after I finished composing it during the first months of 2019. While trying to search for appropriate titular words which would somehow describe the content of the piece, I kept thinking how light-hearted the musical flow of the whole composition really is. Searching through similar light minded musical content, I did not have to search for long, before I came across the divertimenti of the late 18th century (works by both Wolfgang A. & Leopold Mozart, Haydn, Stamitz, etc.). The informality and casual manner of my piece, as well as the fact that it draws its thematic material from the concept of “absolute†music - without any presupposed program - reminds me of those times, style and the presented musical form established then. Composed in three movements of which the first two are connected, the piece focuses on brightly illuminated colours of the broad spectre provided to us by a full setting of a symphonic wind orchestra.Youtube link - Divertimento starts at 14:20Further info:www.upbeateditions.comupbeat.editions@gmail.comhttps://www.facebook.com/UpBeatEditions.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1121338 Composed by Nathaniel Hontz. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 129 pages. TigerSong LLC #722510. Published by TigerSong LLC (A0.1121338). Kittatinny Ridge Suite is composed of three movements: I. On the Delaware at Carpenter's Point, II. The Fields of Walpack at Dusk, and III. Yellow Frame's Harvest Home. The suite is a musical landscape of different points along the Kittatinny mountain ridge in western Sussex County, New Jersey. I. On the Delaware at Carpenter's Point explores a kayaking trip at the very northern point of New Jersey. From the river one can see the High Point monument, the highest point in the state, as one crosses under bridges, passes islands, and speeds through small rapids. II. The Fields of Walpack at Dusk paints the tiny, rural township of Walpack, with its quiet fields and forests. The central theme is In Babilone: an old Dutch melody, echoing the regions colonial-era settlers. III. Yellow Frame's Harvest Home is a fantasy on Come, Ye Thankful People, Come, illustrating the late summer community dinner, Harvest Home run by the Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church, of Fredon township. Other hymn tunes surface in the piece, including May the Lord Mighty God and St. Anne (the colonial-era psalm tune for O God our Help in Ages Past).

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1498364 Composed by Leon Boellmann. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 19th Century,Classical,Religious. 49 pages. John Ivor Holland #1074704. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1498364). Léon Boëllmann (1862 –1897) was a French composer, born in Alsace. An admirer of Saint-Saëns, he composed around 160 works until his early death at the age of 35, probably from tuberculosis. His best-known composition is ‘Suite Gothique’ (1895), now a staple of the organ repertoire. The third movement 'Prière à Notre-Dame' is probably the most famous movement (along with the concluding 'Toccata') and has been arranged for many ensembles over the years; this fresh version for full concert band includes additional parts for percussion and alternative transpositions to allow greater flexibility for smaller ensembles and is sensitively cross-cued throughout, whilst still retaining the essential 'organ' sound as much as possible.
