My Limited or Full series is geared toward the success of small bands with limited instrumentation. These pieces aim at giving small bands more advanced music within the framework of a young band arrangement. If you like the music, these pieces also sound great with a larger full instrumentation.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Leontovych’s CAROL OF THE BELLS is one of the most iconic and timeless Christmas carols in Western music. This arrangement inserts the classic carol into an exciting, lively concert band overture that is sure to interest both your students and your audience! This overture begins with a loud and bombastic riff, accompanied by a lively accented background rhythm. The introduction then gives way to a soft and lively melody in the flutes and high woodwinds. The full ensemble then enters, combining traditional carol with the lively accented rhythm. The piece then softly passes the melody between sections. The melody is further passed around as instruments are added. The piece finally gives way to a bombastic combination of the traditional carol and the introductory riff. The melody is then softly passed between sections once more, and then this section finally builds to a full orchestral finish. The folk melody Ukrainian Bell Carol was sung in many Ukrainian villages in celebration of the New Year. Bell Carol a la Big Band is a fresh and clever treatment of the traditional carol. Contemporary harmonies are used throughout, and the infectious Jazz Waltz Swing feel makes this arrangement distinctively hip and cool. This is the favorite Bell Carol set in a way unlike any other arrangement you have heard before! (2:53).

The Coventry Carol is an English Christmas carol dating from the 16th Century. The carol was traditionally performed in Coventry in England as part of a mystery play called The Pageant of the Shearman and Tailors. The carol refers to the massacre of the innocents, in which King Herod ordered all male infants under the age of two in Bethlehem to be killed, and takes the form of a lullaby sung by mothers of the doomed children.

This setting opens with a verse of basic harmonisation, moving onto a more contrapuntal second verse, followed by a bass section lead in verse three. The final verse is tutti with a solo trumpet descant.
