From Book 1 of Brahms's Hungarian Danced (Published in 1869). Hungarian Dance No. 5 is probably to most well-known of the set of 21. This dance was based on the csÃ¡rdÃ¡s by BÃ©la KÃ©ler (1820-1882) titled BÃ¡rtfai emlÃ©k which Brahms mistakenly thought was a traditional folksong. It is scored for traditional concert band and transposed up a semitone to G minor.

Hungarian born Franz Liszt (1811-1886) composed 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies for solo piano. The most famous Hungarian Rhapsody is the second, in the traditional Gypsy styles of the lassan (slow) and the friska (fast). This transcription for concert band is based on the score orchestrated by Karl MÃ¼ller-Berghaus (1829-1907). The original piano work is in C# minor, and the MÃ¼ller-Berghaus version is in C minor.

This transcription is for concert band with full score (pp. 1â€“46), piccoloâ€“harp (pp. 47â€“213), and transposed parts (pp. 214â€“275).
