Youngstown is a city in Ohio near the state’s border with Pennsylvania which fueled America's burgeoning industrial revolution with its steel manufacturing. After World War II, however, Youngstown began a slow economic decline as its  economy failed to diversify. This culminated on “Black Monday,” September 19, 1977, when several steel plants shut down, destroying over 5,000 jobs overnight, and tens of thousands more in the coming months.This piece attempts to capture the history and spirit of Youngstown through the multifaceted textures of the wind band. With light flowing textures representing the city's beginnings as an iron mining town to harsher, industrial sounds for its height of influence, both give way to the devastation of Black Monday. Despite this, a melodic throughline permeates the darkness, representing the survival of the soul of Youngstown.Youngstown is a challenging, soulful, and emotional piece that should be playable by varsity-level high school bands and college wind ensembles. Published by Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings (A0.733031). The Circus Bee is a circus march written by Henry Fillmore of Cincinnati, Ohio in February 1908. Because of its complexity and advanced writing, it is sometimes used as either an opener or an encore piece in band concerts. The Circus Bee was a celebration of sorts for the fact that Henry Fillmore and his father, who managed their publishing business in Cincinnati, finally agreed that the young composer could publish his music at home, even though it did not meet the elder Fillmore's standard of being religious music. It was during this period of conflict between father and son that Henry, showing defiance to his father for not repenting his desire to write marches, reportedly told him, I will huff and I will puff, and I will continue to write marches. This alleged statement by the younger Fillmore gave birth to one of his many composing pseudonyms, Will Huff. The march is named after an imaginary circus newspaper and reflects Fillmore's lifelong interest in circuses and his varied experiences while touring with five different big top shows where he played the trombone. He was also famous for his many trombone marches, such as Bones Trombone, Teddy Trombone and the famous Lassus Trombone, all showcasing the trombone glissando, or smear, caused by moving the trombone slide in and out while playing the instrument (usually loud).

A clarinet soloist featured in the “polka� variation of the main theme is playing the original accordion solo. In this section the Key changes to G Major, but to prevent confusion from younger band members, the local time signatures of all instruments aside from the soloist remain the same. Two trumpet soloists are featured in one of the mariachi variations of the ride playing the original harmonized triplet-filled variation of the theme. Articulations in the woodwinds must be exaggerated to maintain the interest of the audience.
