Edvard Grieg's Huldigungsmarsch (Homage March) is the third of a three part orchestral suite op. 56  premiered in Oslo in 1892. Originally Gried wrote a nine part incidental music for the play Sigurd Jorsalfar  celebrating the Norwegian king Sigurd I. The arrangement is kept in original key and as close as possible to  the original score. Its first performane took place in November 2023 by the municipal band of Zirl, Austria,  conducted by Albert Schwarzmann.

My father enjoyed singing, particularly when the family went on road trips. One of our favorite songs that he sang was The
Far North Land. Several years ago, my sister recorded our father singing this song for use on the soundtrack of one of her
movies. Years later I transcribed the song from that recording and used it as the foundation for this piece. My aunts tell me
they recall my father singing this song when he was a boy growing up in Minnesota, and that they referred to it as Fletch's
song. It was only while working on this piece that I discovered that Duncan, Clear Water and Bear Skin are actual lakes in
the border lakes region where Minnesota meets Canada.
The original arrangement, for string quartet, was premiered by the OdeonQuartet on October 21, 2003, at Seattle's Town
Hall.

I Love You Always Forever is the debut single by Welsh singer Donna Lewis from her debut album, 'Now in a Minute' (1996). Written by Lewis, it was released as the album's lead single in the United States in April 1996 and in the United Kingdom in August that year. Inspired by the novel 'Love for Lydia' by English author H. E. Bates, the lyrics of the song declare endless love for her significant other. The song was originally titled Lydia, but was later changed because there was no mention of anyone with that name in the song. The chorus, I love you always forever, near and far closer together, is a quote taken directly from the book. The success of I Love You Always Forever earned Lewis a nomination for Best British Female Artist at the 1997 Brit Awards and in 2016, a cover version of the song by Australian pop singer Betty Who peaked at number six on the ARIA Singles Chart and topped the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. The song has seen a resurgence recently in its use as background for various internet memes. Turn back the clock with this timeless love song, for a Valentine's concert or at any time, really.

Fanfare and Dance functions as a dual arrangement of two traditional Irish folk tunes, The Girl I Left Behind Me and Be Thou My Vision, combining them as a multi-themed up-tempo work. It is designed to be the third of a set of three folksong arrangements including March and Caprice, a setting of two sea shanties, and Chorale and Intermezzo, an exploration into two early American tunes. Featuring a fanfare, march, and chorale, Fanfare and Dance exploits the multi-faceted nature of the concert band in a riveting juxtaposition of themes. It may be programmed alongside its two counterpart arrangements or performed separately to equal effect.

Congratulations on completing the first few pages of your Method Book! I wrote this fanfare using only the typical concepts covered within these pages. The idea was that the music would be passed out after mastery of these concepts as a reward - we would end class with a little work each day on the “concert music� even if we weren’t preparing a concert. I have always found that it’s never too early to start working on the ensemble skills of balance, blend, intonation, and understanding one’s role within the ensemble. Plus, the act of making music together is why our kids joined band: playing pieces of music is fun!

This fanfare should be played at Quarter Note = 116. It should be strong and notes should be played for their full value. There are only ever three lines (plus percussion) at any given time to help start the process of teaching Melody, Harmony, and Accompaniment.

Louise Farrenc (1804-1875) was the only woman to hold a professorship at a European Conservatory (Paris) in the 19th Century.  They would only allow her to teach piano, not composition, because she was undeniably a virtuoso pianist.  During her lifetime she mainly composed for piano, but also wrote works for the orchestra, including three symphonies, and a great deal of mixed chamber music.  She wrote no works for wind band of any kind, yet she lived in a golden age of especially French band music.  As such, I felt a new generation of music students should hear the music of this incredibly talented composer who had the misfortunate of being born female in the 19th Century.  This work is certainly characteristic of the Romantic Era and would make a lovely concert overture.  the main sub ject of her variations is Martin Luther's A Mighty Fortress is Our God.  If you purchase this score (and like it), please write to me at debbaut@gmail.com, subject Farrenc and I will send you a copy of the wav file as well as a link to her original piano work (I;'ve not taken too many liberties).  If you still like it, parts may be had for $100 via Venmo or personal check.  Write to debbaut@gmail.com, subject Farrenc..

A promise to stand by... this phrase indicate loyalty, steadfastness, being a man of one's word, knowing that integrity and honor are the enduring qualities by which we will be judged; not fame, fortune, influence, or other worldly measures. It is no surprise, therefore, that this phrase was incorporated by Lou Fortunate and Msgr Herman Kucyk, of blessed memory, into the alma mater of Divine Child High School. When I was approached by Mr. Bush and the Divine Child Band Boosters about the possibility of writing a piece to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the band program I was excited, flattered, and--most of all--humbled that I should be chosen out of many worthier candidates, in my estimation. Divine Child has had, for the longest time--since the beginning, it seems--a vibrant and thriving fine arts program involving music (both vocal and instrumental), theatre, and the visual arts as well as literature and poetry. I began to conceive of a work that would pay homage to each of these arts musically and be a celebration of all that Divine Child has to offer. One of my favourite composers, Gustav Mahler, famously said, a symphony must be like the world; it must contain everything. In the 1988 vice-presidential debate, Lloyd Bentsen famously said to Dan Quayle, Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy. A voice in my head said, Benjamin, you're no Gus Mahler. As the discarded drafts in the recycle bin took on a life of their own, I eventually dismissed the idea as impractical, and even vainglorious. I settled upon a more general idea to make the music about the band program. Most every student in the band program goes through the rigors of marching band and performs at the Falcon football games where they become intimate with the Three School Songs: the Falcon Fanfare, the Fight Song, and the Alma Mater. Taking the latter piece as my inspiration, I meditated upon the mission of the school: a promise to educate us in body, mind, and spirit. Divine Child High School stands by her promise, recruiting some of the best teachers in the area to guide us through the tumultuous adolescent years. We students, too, have a promise: to strive to be worthy of this gift, and to accept it and use it for the betterment of society. In band class, under Leo Tallieu, I learned to listen; to contribute to the group; to consider my part in relation to the whole ensemble; to show leadership when needed; and to be a role player when needed. And so, my conception of the piece changed. I wanted to use melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic devices that would be familiar to all DCHS band students, but to use them in a new and different way; to recontextualize them. As time went on, Bob Bush asked me if I would be able to work in a tribute to two band students who had tragically died in the last few years: Blaise H.

See if you can follow the story as the band plays! This piece was jointly commissioned and premiered by the following bands: Armstrong Junior High School, under the direction of Rob Reams; Titusville Middle School, under the direction of Patrick Vetter; Mifflin County Middle School, under the direction of Samantha Gates. The title Fairy Tale Mystery is a combination of ideas submitted by students from each of the schools. The cover art was designed by Armstrong Jr. HS student Eliza Major.
