Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: A0.866212 Composed by Jeffrey Ouper. Christian,Christmas,Contemporary. Score and parts. 29 pages. Jeffrey Ouper #2896541. Published by Jeffrey Ouper (A0.866212). NOTE: This is the conductor's score only.  It is legal size.  The instrumental parts for the piece are a separate download. This version of Winter's Breath is scored for Symphonic Band and solo voice.  It will make a great addition to your next holiday concert.  The duration of the song is about 6 minutes.  About the song:Winter’s Breath is an original Christmas song (original music and lyrics) composed in 2014. The lyrics embrace both a secular and religious message of peace, love, and hope inspired by the beauty of winter snow.  I really wanted to write a more profound Christmas song with an important message embracing a modern view of Christmas since so many songs are commercialized or limited in meaning.Having lived in the Arizona desert since 2007, snow has become a novelty to me, and I was inspired by its beauty and the memories I had of winter growing up in northern Illinois.  The chorus that repeats throughout the song presents an irony of winter warming the soul.  I found this to be both interesting and also meaningful in that I was describing my new viewpoint of winter snow (seeing more beauty in it than before) and presenting a metaphor for life-one that encourages the listener to see the beauty in something that most northerners despise. The first verse begins with sensory perceptions including seeing, hearing, touching, and smelling various natural qualities of winter.  The second verse describes the joy of children playing in the snow and their belief in winter stories.  The third verse is directed at worrying adults with a message of hope for the future.  The bridge encourages the listener to look past the negativity and differences in other people and look towards Christmas and the new year for a hope renewed.  The final verse concludes with the traditional religious view of Christmas tradition.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818257 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Septimus Winter. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Folk. Score and parts. 54 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #3566019. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818257). Abraham’s Daughter: March from the Civil War ♫ by Septimus Winter (1861) ♫ with When Johnny Comes Marching Home by Patrick Gilmore a.k.a. Louis Lambert (1863). ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ After a family trip to Gettysburg, Antietam, Harper’s Ferry, and Ford Theater, I created a concert band arrangement to solidify the trip in my mind using a popular Civil War song from the North, “Abraham’s Daughter,†and a song used by both North and South, “Johnny Comes Marching Home.†♫ Music was a means for soldiers to release the tensions of war. By December 1861 the Union army had 28,000 musicians in 618 bands, not counting soldiers who travelled with violins and other musical instruments. Soldiers often sang as they marched by day and at night in camp. Musical duels were not uncommon between Union and Confederate bands. This idea inspired the last section of the arranger where the 2 songs are played against each other. ♫ Septimus Winner wrote “Abraham’s Daughter†in 1861 for the Minstrel stage. “Abraham’s Daughter†pictures a fresh recruit that is on his way to Washington DC to be processed and trained for future battles. ♫ Given the unpublished verses we have, Abraham’s Daughter was undoubtedly sung and embellished by Union soldiers as they travelled from battlefield to battlefield. ♫ Winner is also known for writing “Ten Little Injuns†“Listen to the Mockingbird†and “Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?†♫ Abraham Lincoln had 4 sons, Robert Todd, Edward Baker, William Wallace, and Thomas (Tad); but no daughters. So, who is Abraham’s daughter? ♫ Oh! Should you ask me who she am, Columbia is her name, sir; She is the child of Abraham, Or Uncle Sam, the same, sir. Now if I fight, why ain't I right? And don't you think I oughter. The volunteers are a-pouring in From every loyal quarter, And I'm goin' down to Washington To fight for Abraham's daughter. ♫ At the beginning of the war, the majority of soldiers, North and South, were fighting to uphold their view of government, each side justifying its position by quoting the Constitution. Southern States saw each State as a sovereign, independent nation. Abraham Lincoln insisted that the United States were one nation. For Abraham Lincoln, the purpose of the war was to preserve the Union. The undivided union was Lincoln’s daughter. ♫ arrangement © 2000, 2013 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ recording ℗ 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ sequenced by the arranger ♫ Purchase price includes permission to make photocopies of parts and additional scores for a medium size school band. ♫ This .pdf file includes 1) Condensed Conductor’s Score 2) Individual parts for: Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet 1, Clarinet 2, Alto Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Bassoon, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Treble Clef Baritone, Tuba, Electric Bass, Snare and Bass Drums, Cymbals, and Bells. 3) Condensed Conductor’s Score in a smaller format for use in a 10 inch tablet 4) The same parts formatted for a 10 inch tablet. ♫ The YouTube video contains a full recording.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818278 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Henry A Work. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple. Folk. Score and parts. 30 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #4884975. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818278). Grandfather’s Clock ♫ by Henry A Work ♫ with Hickory Dickory Dock ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ My Grandfather’s clock was written in 1876 by Henry Clay Work (written in England by an American author.) Our first print record of the poem Hickory Dickory Dock is in 1744. The origin of the music is lost in history. ♫ The teaching point of this piece is to instruct the young band how to switch back and forth from duple and triple time signatures. My method is to count the triplet or duplet inside a pulse (instead of counting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). This helps solidify the basic nature of 6 8 time in the student. ♫ The Percussion section has a critical role in the piece. ♫ sequenced by the arranger ♫ arrangement © 2001, 2005 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ recording ℗ 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ sequenced by the arranger ♫ Purchase price includes permission to make photocopies of parts and additional scores for a medium size school band. ♫ This .pdf file 17 files (30 pages): 1) Condensed Conductor’s Score 2) Individual parts for: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax/Alto Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Trumpet, F Horn, Trombone/Baritone/Bassoon, Treble Clef Baritone, Tuba, Electric Bass, Wood Block/Triangle, Claves/Slide Whistle and Bells. ♫ The YouTube video contains the full recording.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1114090 Composed by Gustav Mahler. Arranged by Robert L. Anello. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 29 pages. Robert Anello #716008. Published by Robert Anello (A0.1114090). Gustav Mahler’s “Veni Creator Spiritus†was a new musical setting for the lyrics of a 9th century Latin hymn, originally sung as a Gregorian chant, as an invocation of the Holy Spirit during the celebration of the Christian Feast of Pentecost. This work would comprise the Part I of the symphony with Part II being a setting of the words from the closing scene of “Faust†by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Mahler envisioned the premiere of this new symphony, Number 8, as a massively grand spectacle, with an orchestra not only including strings but a large brass and woodwind section, eight soloists, two full adult choruses, and a children’s choir. The full complement for the premiere was 171 instrumentalists and 858 singers, a total of 1029 musicians, which inspired the promoter to advertise the work as “Symphony of a Thousand.†Part I, “Veni Creator Spiritus,†expresses the whole range of human emotions: grand statements expressing the awe of divine majesty alternate with gentle melodic lines of tender love. It combines moments of awesome dramatic tension with the lightness of a fugue. Robert Anello’s arrangement makes this exceptional music accessible to large concert bands while maintaining the essence and flow of Mahler’s original work.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.796594 Composed by Gary D. Belshaw. Folk,Holiday,Patriotic. Score and parts. 24 pages. DR GARY D BELSHAW #2958021. Published by DR GARY D BELSHAW (A0.796594). Conductor's Score. 24 pages, letter format sheets. Composed for the U. S. Naval Academy Band, the Navy's oldest band, and the third oldest military ban in the United States. The march is a tribute to the ensemble in honor of its 150th Anniversary and premiered at their gala Sesquicentennial concert in 2003. In 6/8 meter, the march features a chromatic Introduction built on a 12-tone row. The First and Second strains (in F Major) are lively, bright, and completely tonal. The incipit of the trio (in B-flat) consists of the first four notes of Anchors Aweigh. This is significant for the USNA Band because it was composed by Lt. Charles A. Zimmermann, selected as Bandmaster of the ensemble in 1887 at the age of 26, and Midshipman First Class Alfred Hart Miles, supposed while seated at the Naval Academy Chapel organ. The trio is played three times; the first is interrupted by the Break Strain. The Introduction then serves to both conclude the Break Strain and to transition into the first repeat of the Tiro, this time featuring the saxophone section on the countermelody. One more Break Strain and Introduction builds to the final statement of the Trio, with coda and triplet stinger. The set of parts is also available right here in Sheet Music Plus.
