Living in Calgary from summer to fall of 2023, I thought I should compose a music describing the scenery of this place. From the lively city of Calgary, the historic Bow River flowing leisurely, the light rail (LRT) running through the city, the birch forest in Wentworth, where I am staying, and finally, Calgary's most famous event, the Stampede Festival. These are all five scenes that I am familiar with that I have encountered around me.

In particular, the year 2023, when this music was composed, is even more meaningful as it marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Canada.   The contents of each movement are as follows.

‘My Sinfonia No. 8 is not at all tragic or moody like the Seventh. It is a summer piece and is based on three moments from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream‘, writes Hans Werner Henze. This, however, is all we get to know from the composer regarding the work’s reference to Shakespeare’s comedy. On closer examination of the three-movement symphony it turns out that the first movement is a fantasia on Oberon’s order to Puck to search for the magic flower. In the second movement, Henze apparently set the love scenes between Titania and Bottom to music. Ultimately, the final movement shines gracefully and peacefully as if everything that had happened before had only been a dream. - Hans Werner Henze

The most well performed piece.
It was the second work for Hiro to compose a mandolin orchestra, the work was composing during June to July, 1975 and was first performed by Tokai Student Mandolin Association in August. The inspiration of this music came from fresh greenery in early summer. The title of Pastoral Fantasy is based on the image of pastoral scenery and it consists the theme of the music. The following is the construction of the music.
1. Initial pastoral andante
2. Introduction of fugue, develop freely
3. Recreation of touching pastoral theme
4. Powerful coda
Please do not stick with interpretation of the music, just feel the sounds, as you like. It would be great pleasure for the composer if this music means something to those who play or listen to it.
