A short (18 minute) symphony designed for a good high school or undergraduate college orchestra.  Generally very tonal but with some excursions into 21st century techniques. Very accessible for a high school audience yet fairly challenging.

This piece is for orchestra but grouped as 4 quintets plus strings. This piece started as an elegy for Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I decided to use the notes D, Bb and G as a mini motif to represent her initials. The fact that she spent 13 years (a prime number) on the appeals court and 27 years (3 cubed) on the Supreme Court induced me to extend the motif to a 5, 7 and 11 note set of pitches. These (and their inversions) became the basis for the work's melodies.

This piece is dedicated to the proposition that ALL people, regardless of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation are created equal and deserve equal protection under the law. The main body of the piece alternates between two themes. The first is intended to convey a sense of anger while the second conveys sadness. The ending section uses the 60's civil rights anthem We Shall Overcome to evoke a sense of hope and optimism for the future.

Sunrise is a musical portrait of a Tucson sunrise. It is in 3 continuous sections: Night, transition, and Sunrise. It is targeted at a High School level orchestra.  

The Score and parts are all designed to be printed as booklets on 12x18 paper to give standard 9x12 concert size parts.
