Carl Heinrich Hübler was born in Wachwitz, near Dresden on 4th December 1822 and was the horn player in the Dresden Royal Court orchestra from 1844 until his retirement in 1891.This Caprice on the theme from Bellini's Souvenir de la Sonnambule is a delightful addition to the repertoire that deserves to be performed much more often and demonstrates Hübler's knowledge of orchestration as well as an intimate connection to the solo instrument.He also wrote a Concerto for Four Horns after being inspired by hearing Schumann's Koncertstück for Four Horns in a private performance which Schumann attended. I would rather call this opus by Saint-Saens The Frenchman in Morocco.It is known that composer S-S traveled a lot during his rather long and productive life. Despite the obvious oriental flavor of the thematic material in this work, one can clearly feel the western cut, the clarity of the form and the recognizability of the techniques characteristic of classical music. In my transcription, I have not tried to imitate his transparent and always convincing orchestrations. This music itself led me on the path of creating a picture from the Arab world.

Published by Dacker Music (A0.814731). The music of Paisano Suite was composed in 1982 for the Austin Ballet Theatre on a grant from the City of Austin. The resulting ballet was produced in February, 1983 under the title Ballabile, with choreography by ABT Artistic Director Stanley Hall.This music was originally scored for a small pit orchestra, and it was only in 2012 that it was shortened and re-orchestrated to create this suite for full orchestra. Since the original title is a term used specifically for dance music, and the new version of the work is meant to be a concert suite rather than a ballet, it was also re-titled after the Paisano Ranch, in the central Texas Hill Country, where it was originally composed and which served as its inspiration.The entire nearly twenty-minute suite is actually based on a fairly modest amount of musical material and the eight short movements are thematically all very closely related.
