Composed by Elizabeth Skola Davis. Contemporary,Folk,Patriotic. Score and parts. 82 pages. Elizabeth Ann Davis #2031967. Published by Elizabeth Ann Davis (A0.826950).

Intended to be a festive concert opener, this lively work incorporates motifs derived from the Maryland State Song (Maryland, My Maryland) which itself is set to Lauriger Horatius, a melody better known as O Tannenbaum. The march is dedicated to the musicians of the Londontowne Symphony (an amateur community ensemble in Edgewater, Maryland) and was written for their Season 10 opening concert. Beginning with a lone snare drum setting a simple cadence, the march quickly builds in volume and intensity as different instruments and groups enter and play with the themes. Lesser known American bugle calls such as Church Call and To the Color vie with snippets of a frolic borrowed from a Max Reger piano piece as every player gets a moment in the spotlight, leading to a rousing finale.

By Barry Manilow. By Bruce Johnston. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Pop. Score and parts. 57 pages. Kevin Riley #647831. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1043121).

I Write the Songs is a popular song written by Bruce Johnston in 1975 and released on his album Going Public in 1977. Barry Manilow's version reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in January 1976 after spending two weeks atop the Billboard adult contemporary chart in December 1975. It won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year and was nominated for Record of the Year in 1977. Billboard ranked it as the No. 13 song of 1976. The original version was recorded by Captain & Tennille, who worked with Johnston in the early 1970s with the Beach Boys. It appears on their 1975 album Love Will Keep Us Together. The first release of I Write the Songs as a single was by teen idol David Cassidy from his 1975 solo album The Higher They Climb, which was also produced by Johnston. Cassidy's version reached number 11 on the UK Singles Chart in August of that year. Johnston has stated that, for him, the I in the song is God, and that songs come from the spirit of creativity in everyone. He has said that the song is not about his Beach Boys bandmate Brian Wilson. Manilow was initially reluctant to record the song, stating in his autobiography Sweet Life: The problem with the song was that if you didn't listen carefully to the lyric, you would think that the singer was singing about himself. It could be misinterpreted as a monumental ego trip.[3] After persuasion by Clive Davis, then president of Arista Records, Manilow recorded the song, and his version of I Write the Songs was the first single taken from the album Tryin' to Get the Feeling. It first charted on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 15, 1975, reaching the top of the chart nine weeks later, on January 17, 1976. Cash Box said of Manilow's version Good work Barry describing the song as melodic, ballad-like beginning grows into an operatic crescendo, all done in clear production that all age groups will appreciate.

The quadrille (a precursor to American square dancing) was a dance fashionable in late 18th- and 19th-century Europe and its colonies. It was usually performed by four pairs of dancers in a rectangular formation, and frequently danced to a medley of opera melodies. So, it turns out that a quadrille is just the 19th-century version of a mash-up!

This Quadrille features excerpts from: Symphony #38 (Prague), the Impressario overture, Viennese Sonatina No. 1, Symphony #41 (Jupiter), Don Giovanni, Marriage of Figaro, March for Orchestra, KV 189, Queen of the Night aria from Magic Flute, Abduction from the Seraglio, Turkish March, and the finale from Symphony #29. The title comes from Laudatio which means commendation or praise, and Amadeus from Wolfgang Mozart's best known middle name.

SKU: A0.882396

Composed by David Chesky. Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 69 pages. Pamaluc Music #18967. Published by Pamaluc Music (A0.882396).

The Rap Symphony for large orchestra featuring two rappers is about a transitional society, a society that is shifting from the word to the image. Our civilization once used to believe in depth and reading and art; now abstract thought is changing into a simplistic, superficial society where one is consumed with the quick Starbucks or Twitter fix. It's all lightness of being today. We don't celebrate anticipation anymore, people don't want to put the time in. This symphony is about the collapse of that whole ethos. The phrase in the lyrics that says 'kill the philharmonic' doesn't mean that literally. It's a metaphor for a society that has no use for the philharmonic. We're losing these things. Pretty soon John Coltrane and Miles Davis, along with all jazz and classic music, will become museum pieces. We used to have a culture that cherished these, but in a super simplistic society, there's just no room for them. Duration 19.38 min 3fl./ 2ob./ 2cl./ B.Cl/ 2bs./ cbsn/ 4hrns./ 3 tpts./ 3tbns./ tuba / tymp./ 6 perc./ harp/ strings View the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XAuO9Rm3Cs.
