This adaptation of this tune for big band features some new coy and witty accompainiment for this tune beloved by singers around the world. The work, written in 1983 is in 5 movements with a prelude and postlude framing the work, a central slow movement featuring the soprano saxophone and percussion and then 2 scherzos, one on each side of the central, 3rd movement. Thus an arch form of ABCBA. The 2 scherzos share the same material but in the 1st scherzo, this is done in a horizontal manner and in the 2nd scherzo the material is treated vertically. The 3rd and central movement is a Lament featuring a solo soprano saxophone and solo percussionist who dialogue between themselves and with the orchestra. The duration is 24 minutes.
