Sie wurde im Auftrag der Münchner Philharmoniker komponiert und 1995 unter der Leitung des Komponisten in München uraufgeführt. Ihre 50 Minuten Spieldauer und die umfangreiche Orchesterbesetzung stellen sie in die Tradition der großen Beiträge zur Gattung Symphonie. Als eindrucksvoller Beleg dafür sei das „Adagio dolce“ genannt, das mit 14 Minuten Spieldauer fast Brucknersche Ausmaße hat und auch einzeln aufgeführt werden kann. Die 3.
