The music is by Sonny Burke and the lyrics are by Peggy Lee. The song was performed in the film by George Givot, who also provided the voice of Tony. Peggy Lee recorded the song for herself for a 1955 Decca release with a choir and orchestra led by Victor Young. The song has also been recorded for a Disneyland album, sung by Bob Grabeau. Ronnie Hilton recorded the song, and Siw Malmkvist recorded the song in Swedish, releasing it on a record in February 1956.The song has also been recorded by Vikingarna on the 1979 album Vikingarnas julparty and Christer Sjögren himself on the 1994 Christmas album När ljusen ska tändas därhemma. Mark Salling, Kevin McHale, and Chord Overstreet recorded the song, and performed it on twenty-second episode and season two finale of Glee on May 24, 2011.

Other than the fact that Sousa’s “thunderer” was undoubtedly a Mason, his identity may never be revealed. “The Thunderer” march was dedicated to Columbia Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar, of Washington, D.C., and it was composed on the occasion of the Twenty-fourth Triennial Conclave of the Grand Encampment. The conclave was held in October 1889 and was sponsored by Columbia Commandery No. 2. Sousa had been “knighted” in that organization three years earlier.“The Thunderer” was Mrs. John Philip Sousa’s favorite march. This was revealed by their daughter Helen, who also surmised that the “thunderer” might have been her father’s salute to the London Times, which was known as “the thunderer.” It has since been determined that Sousa probably had no association with the newspaper at that time, however. The “thunderer” might have been one of the men in charge of making arrangements for the 1889 conclave–in particular, Myron M. Pavane pour une infante défunte (Pavane for a Dead Princess) is a work for solo piano by Maurice Ravel, written in 1899 while the French composer was studying at the Conservatoire de Paris under Gabriel Fauré. Ravel published an orchestral version in 1910 using two flutes, an oboe, two clarinets (in B♭), two bassoons, two horns, harp, and strings.This version has been expanded for use by community orchestras to include saxophones.
