Someone must tell the audience what to expect in order to get a good response. The music is made up mostly of public domain Christmas music, woven together in unusual ways, including different melodies appearing at the same time. The audience is told that Santa has had too much Christmas Cheer to drink, and the smears in the trombones indicate his condition. Half the fun is when the melodies bump into each other, and when pieces of Stars and Stripes and National Emblem March find their way into the mix. At the end, the music indicates Santa is falling, and lands with a big thud. Enjoy!

Swayfaring Stranger is a swinging version of the old spiritual song, I'm Just a Poor Wayfaring Stranger. It goes through 3 renditions of the tune with completely different orchestrations of each version. If you have a good jazz improvisation performer in the orchestra, he/she can improvise while playing with the orchestra, either throughout the entire piece or at any section(s) you should choose. We performed it with a jazz flutist, and it went over very well.

The composer put it aside because it had almost no percussion and was thinly scored.  In 2021 he revised it by adding many percussion instruments as well as rescoring much of the music.

Into Love's Light is for full orchestra, and begins gently, but grows as it proceeds. It has a climax near the end that has made it very popular with the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra for whom it was written. Audiences have commented that it brings chill bumps or tears. Time of performance is 4:50. It is fairly easy to play, and was selected by two junior all-region orchestras in Texas. However, to obtain the best results, a mature orchestra is recommended in order  to pull off the big climax near the end.

Trumpet solo with orchestra accomp., My Heart Cries Out is the first movement of Where is Love? The 2nd movement is Hope Arises. This beautiful trumpet solo needs a very fine trumpeter with a good tone for best results.  The first movement is very romantic, and will sound best with trumpet vibrato. Show off your all-state trumpeter! The orchestral accompaniment is quite easy.

It brought many compliments from the audience on its first performance. It will help to use earphones as you listen to the audio. You will need a sensitive orchestra to get the aura for this piece. They will love it.

As you near the end, be sure to gradually crescendo, leaving the very loudest section to be the ending section. This is the most dramatic part.
