We Want To Play A Plena! It is a single-movement piece for the Symphony Youth Orchestra by Composer William Pagán-Pérez. The piece is in the key of D Major. The Plena is a music genre or a rhythm from the south of Puerto Rico (a territory of the United State in the Caribbean). This is a “toccata� for whom? Answer: the celli, basses, bassoons and tuba, for this is a workout for those often under-challenged members. In addition, this a gem of a piece as regards its wonderfully concise construction and simple, satisfying form. It is historically ironic, given Berlioz' wild public image and antipathy to musical authority, that he could produce such a work as this so effortlessly, a product a pure intellect without seeming passion. This could serve as an effective curtain-raiser or a daily exercise in general rehearsal. As many characteristics of the composer as I could manage are to be found in this arrangement, viz. Tbn. on melody, High viola the same, W/w tremolos, Fl./vl. Unison melody, --thereby (hopefully) evoking the Corsair Overture, Harold in Italy, Sym.Fantastique, Nuits d'Éte.

                         Os arranjos são organizados em três níveis:

                         *Primeiro Nível consiste em fazer acompanhamento simples utilizando notas musicais de ritmo simples de acordo com o instrumento a ser aprendido;

                         *Segundo Nível consiste em fazer acompanhamento e partes do solo da música, o ritmo já é mais elaborado;

                         *Terceiro Nível consiste em fazer solo da música, com um ritmo elaborado.

 

                         As aulas para o primeiro nível e segundo são em grupo de até cinco pessoas, a do terceiro nível são individuais tendo a duração de uma hora por semana. Os três níveis fazem ensaios semanais juntos, formando conjuntos, a duração do ensaio é de uma hora.

N the Emilia province of Italy, out of solidarity with the workers fired from another failed company, the workers occupy the factory of self-made industrialist Annibale Doberdò. In dealing with the situation, he starts negotiations. An employee, the beautiful and fiery Irene, nicknamed Califfa, whose worker-husband was killed during a demonstration, meets with Doberdò. He wants to induce the strikers back to work and they show uncertainty between the directives of their union and the incitements to violence by extremists. Irene becomes Doberdò's lover and asks the workers to listen to the industrialist's proposals for renewal of working terms and worker participation in the factory management. The riots, however, continue. The industrialist's stance is badly received by other employers. While he returns from yet another meeting with his lover, Doberdò is killed by assassins.
