Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: IZ.OMW231 Composed by Dan Adams. Score and Parts. 55 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #OMW231. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMW231). 9 x 12 inches.A collector of folk tunes, Lady Nairne (Carolina Oliphant) undoubtedly chose the traditional Scottish air “Hey, Tuttie, Tattie as the setting for her melancholy text because of its beauty and simplicity. Also known as the melody to Robert Burns' nationalistic “Scots Wha Hae, the folk tune has been part of Scottish life for centuries. Lady Nairne wrote her words upon the passing of the only child of her friend, Mrs. Archibald Campbell Colquhoun. In her setting, the Land O' The Leal is a reference to heaven, where they will someday be reunited. This orchestral arrangement of the old Scottish tune hopes to capture the serenity and hopefulness of her poem..

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1032233 Composed by Scottish Traditional. Arranged by Josiah V. Smiddy. Folk,World. Score and parts. 31 pages. Josiah V. Smiddy #4615131. Published by Josiah V. Smiddy (A0.1032233). This arrangement of The Parting Glass is written for full orchestra with tacet percussion and modeled after the style of the of the Irish supergroup, Celtic Woman.  The Parting Glass is in the same vein as Auld Lang Syne but is still sung traditionally by the Irish though not so much by the Scottish.  The original lyrics from this song describe a person bidding farewell to a good friend who is leaving and my not return.  This arrangement opens with a cadenza solo from the principal cello that is intended to set the tone of the piece in that sorrowful dismissal of a good friend.  It is intentionally written with basic instrumentation.  It does not stretch the ranges too far, but still provides some technical and musical challenges to your ensemble.  This would be a great performance piece for a high school or community orchestra.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971716 Composed by WAGSTAFF, Julian. 20th Century,Contemporary,Holiday,Musical/Show,Patriotic. Score and parts. 201 pages. Julian Wagstaff #3421021. Published by Julian Wagstaff (A0.971716). The Symphonic Overture (for orchestra) has its roots in Julian Wagstaff's stage musical John Paul Jones, which premiered in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2001 and was revived professionally with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 2010. Essentially a tragedy of ambition, the musical tells the story of the son of a Scottish gardener who became a hero of the American Revolution as the father of the American navy. The work is in three clearly discernible sections: The first interlaces the Scots jig in 6/8 (which opens the musical) with the anthemic 'Freedom Arise' theme in 4/4 (which closes it), by means of metric modulation. The second, slower section is essentially a canon and variation on the 'Home Again' ballad from Act I of the show, while the third and final section is a radical development of the 'Battle of Flamborough Head' sequence from Act I of the musical. Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890730 Composed by Andrew Wainwright. Contemporary. Score and parts. 144 pages. Andrew Wainwright #2964733. Published by Andrew Wainwright (A0.890730). A finalist in the Salford University International Composers' Competition 2014, 'The Smoke that Thunders' tells the story of David Livingstone's journey to discover Victoria Falls. The piece starts out in optimistic fashion, with a Scottish folk song by Rabbie Burns, which Livingstone reportedly used to hum on his travels. The next section describes his battles with local African tribes, who were suspicious of his motives. After surviving these assaults, a more reflective section ensues, which describes the doubts Livingstone had about continuing his mission. This is epitomized by the hymn 'Lord, Send Me Anywhere', which Livingstone himself wrote. The final section describes his journey along the Zambezi River, the triumphant sounds eliciting his elation at discovering the magnificent Victoria Falls, or as it is known by locals, 'Mosi-oa-Tunya' (The smoke that thunders). *Please note audio file is of the brass band version.
