Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Contemporary,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Score and parts. 424 pages. DoReMi Edition #644919. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1040096).

One of the Masterpieces of Chinese Music of 20th Century The magnificent cave art at Dunhuang, in Western China sets the stage for the ballet, “Dream of Dunhuangâ€. In the middle of the vast wastes of Western China, lies the oasis of Dunhuang, situated in today‘s Gansu Province. Since the Western Han Dynasty(202BC-8AC), Dunhuang was an important trading and cultural center on the famous “Silk Road’, the ribbon of communication which fostered the historic ties between East and West. In the East was China, source of treasured trading articles such as silk; in the West, the â€road“ branched to Venice, and north to what is today‘s Russia. The mural led caves at Dunhuang, which were begun the Northern Wei dynasty(336AD), and developed over one thousand years into the Qing Dynasty, re presents one of the world‘s richest cultural treasures. Drawing on bothn Western(Indian and Persian) as well as Chinese tradition, the caves, of which 492 remain intact, were decorated as a mines of religious devotion, with the initiation of Buddhism into China. The subjects of the murals, such as devise, demons, apsaras and bodhisattvas, represent the entire pantheon of Buddhist mythology, yet are also significant in their representation of muti-racial and muti-cultural influences, standing as an important testament to the age old exchange between East and West. A fabricated fantasia, the story of the ballet was inspirited by the famous artist, maestro Chang Shu-hong, who dedicated his whole life to Dunhuang. One of the Huang An-lun‘s major compositions with the play written by Xu Qing-dong, the score of “Dream of Dunhuang†was completed in mid-1979. The ballet has been dedicated to the composer‘s closest friends, Canadian writers John Fraser and Elizabeth MacCallun. Up to the date this CD being released, the ballet has never got a chance to performed in mainland China. Nevertheless, its music has been wildly performed and warmly received around the world. The Singapore premiere of its suite No.1 was performed by the SSO, conducted by Maestro Lim Yao. It has been also chosen as one of the “Master Piece of Chinese Music in 20th Century†in 1993. The world premiere of the complete ballet was performed successfully by the Russian State Ballet of Moscow, directed by its artist director, Vyatcheslav Godeyev, in 1994. Choreographed by Chen Min, it was took place in Taiwan with the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro David C.H.Chen. In 2002, ROI of Hong Kong has released the CD of the whole ballet, performed by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of Moscow. This is also the audio file attached. Before this recording conducted by the composer himself, the entire score was also performed by the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of Moscow in1995. The YouTube video was the World Premiere in Taiwan by the Russia National Ballet with the Taiwan symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Chen in 1994. The ballet, “ Dream of Dunhuang†depicts two young artists seeking the ultimate experience in love and expression. This two lovers arrived at desert and with the guidance of the celestial maiden, they discover the miracles of Dunhuang. It‘s divided into three acts: Act I: Desert, Act II: Cave, and Act III: Mogao cave.

Para 4 voces mixtas y orquesta sinfónica - REDUCCIÓN A 4 voces mixtas y piano In I Centenario Provinciae Capucinae Nav. - Cant. - Arag. ORCHESTRAL SCORES ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL The Te Deum for mixed choir and symphony orchestra by Lorenzo Ondarra (1931- 2012) was composed in 1998 at the request of the Provincial Curia of the Capuchin Friars, to commemorate the First Centenary, in 2000, of the Restoration of the Navarre, Cantabria and Aragón Capuchin Province. The main theme is the Gregorian melody of the Te Deum, a thanksgiving hymn, which combines the melody of the Tonus Solemnis and the Tonus Simplex. The Gregorian melody alternates between the choir and the orchestra, and develops in a free style as a paraphrase, with frequent melodic movements through parallel fourths and fifths: a typical feature of Ondarra’s compositional language. Modal features permeate the entire work, succeeding one another with tonal sections and even bitonal elements. Ondarra’s orchestration reflects an outstanding work, in which the wind instruments, together with the ubtlety of the woods and strings, plays an important role. Through its deep religiosity, the work combines recollection and the invitation to prayer with moments of brilliance in the treatment of the voices, which are exquisitely interwoven with the orchestral timbres. Material tematiko nagusia Te Deum -eko melodía gregorianoa da, Tonus Solemnis-eko eta Tonus Simplex- eko melodiak aldizkatuz. Melodia gregorianoa txandaka azaltzen da koruaren eta orkestraren bitartez interpretatuz eta Ondarraren konposatzeko eran ohikoa den bezala estilo libre batean parafrasi moduan garatuta eta gehienetan laudun eta bostun paraleloekin egindako melodiekin osatuta dago. Obra ezaugarri modalez beterik dago, sekzio tonalak eraikiz edota elementu bitonalak izanik. Ondarraren orkestrazioak lan paregabea helarazten du, haize-instrumentuen presentzia nagusituz eta zur-instrumentuen eta hari instrumentuen presentzia sotilduz. Obra honek, sakoneko erlijiotasuna eta ahotsen eta orkestraren arteko nahasketa paregabea konbinatzen ditu.

Adaptation, Libretto, and Music by James Nathaniel Holland Performance: James Nathaniel Holland, Tenor Orchestra: CH Symphony Group (Complete Duration: 2 hours)

BRIEF SYNOPSIS: In the urban capital of Soon Rafa, lovers Mariana (Soprano) and Kai (Bass) cannot be together because of Mariana's disapproving wealthy Aunt (Mezzo-Soprano). Torn between love and financial security, an unlikely opportunity arises when a dying rich Occidental, Justin (Tenor) reveals his romantic interest in Kai. The couple plot a pretense to inherit Justin's money and be free to marry and live together. This aria occurs in Act I, Scene 2. Justin (tenor) has just hired a group of porters, including Kai (bass), to guide him through the jungles of the island to photograph the mythical bird, the Scarlet Messenger. Although the men insist it is a legend, Justin inspires them to persevere with him.

Aria Libretto, Justin (tenor singing):
From the hillside, something breaks free.
Is it real? Or just illusion?
Oh how I have to see you, feel that beauty.
Upon your wings our souls must one day fly to heaven.
Never doubt that you can find him, hiding among your dreams.
For when you feel all hope is gone, that's when you spot his red wings, fiery bright. (to the group of porters)
So come with me, all's not in vain. It is real, just not illusion.
The day is fading fast, oh, so quickly.
We'll be the first to see that blazing path of fire.
The Scarlet Messenger!
Oh how that would be the greatest gift of my life.

Khe Sanh is a song by Australian rock band Cold Chisel, released as a 45 rpm single in May 1978, and named after the district capital of Hưng Hóa District, Quảng Tr Province, Vietnam. This arrangement works well as just a pop orchestral work with no vocals, but I have provided the optional TTB vocals, keyboard and rock band parts to use if you are looking for something extra special for a performance feature. There are also optional parts for a saxophones section which will enhance the pop feel and support the horns and woodwinds. Written by pianist Don Walker, Khe Sanh concerns an Australian Vietnam veteran dealing with his return to civilian life. Khe Sanh is one of the most popular songs ever recorded by an Australian act and one generally seen as a resonant symbol of the Australian culture. Don Walker has said the song was inspired by a number of people, including, the guy from the next farm, who came back from Vietnam, severely changed for the worst, and Adelaide guitarist Rick Morris.

N the Emilia province of Italy, out of solidarity with the workers fired from another failed company, the workers occupy the factory of self-made industrialist Annibale Doberdò. In dealing with the situation, he starts negotiations. An employee, the beautiful and fiery Irene, nicknamed Califfa, whose worker-husband was killed during a demonstration, meets with Doberdò. He wants to induce the strikers back to work and they show uncertainty between the directives of their union and the incitements to violence by extremists. Irene becomes Doberdò's lover and asks the workers to listen to the industrialist's proposals for renewal of working terms and worker participation in the factory management. The riots, however, continue. The industrialist's stance is badly received by other employers. While he returns from yet another meeting with his lover, Doberdò is killed by assassins.

Pictures at an Exhibition (A Remembrance of Viktor Hartmann, Tableaux d'une exposition) is a suite of ten pieces originally composed for piano by Modest Mussorgsky in 1874.

Promenade With simple, strong rhythms in asymmetrical meter, Mussorgsky depicts himself roving through the exhibition, now leisurely, now briskly in order to come close to a picture that had attracted his attention, and at times sadly, thinking of his departed friend.

This arrangement of Promenade is adapted from Maurice Ravel's 1922 version for full symphony orchestra.

Fengyang Flower Drum is a folk song from Anhui Province, China. It was very popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This song is a folk ditty. One of the lyrics describes the plight of residents in Fengyang County, Anhui Province in the early Ming Dynasty, and insinuates that Zhu Yuanzhang failed to take care of the people in his hometown, making them unable to settle down and live in their hometown.

The string part of this adapted version is derived from the arrangement by composer Bob Phillips, and the wind and percussion parts are configured according to the characteristics of traditional Chinese music, making it a complete symphonic work. Also, I was trying to add saxophone section into my orchestration to enhance and support the middle timbre of the orchestra, because the saxophone has a deeper sound to across the strings and woodwinds smoothly.

This adapted version is suitable for students with beginning level in orchestra performance, allowing students to feel the charm of symphonic music with simple techniques, and experience traditional Chinese culture and history.
