Composer and conductor Ronnie Hazlehurst, who also produced themes for such series as Are You Being Served?, Yes Minister, and Only Fools and Horses, created the theme for the show. The BBC initially disliked Hazlehurst's theme, feeling it was not proper for a comedy programme to have such mellow music. He was asked to play the music faster for more comedic effect but eventually his original slower version was accepted. A jauntier, upbeat version was played by a brass band in the episode Full Steam Behind. The theme, an instrumental work, featured lyrics three times. The 1981 Christmas special, Whoops, had two verses of lyrics written by Roy Clarke that were performed over the closing credits. The 1983 film, Getting Sam Home, used those two verses, with an additional two and played them over the opening credits. Another altered version was sung during Compo's funeral in the 2000 episode Just a Small Funeral. Bill Owen also wrote a different version of the lyrics but this version was never used during an episode of the show. Composing the score for each episode until his death in 2007, Hazlehurst spent an average of ten hours per episode watching scenes and making notes for music synchronisation. Hazlehurst then recorded the music using an orchestra consisting of a guitar, harmonica, two violins, a viola, cello, accordion, horn, bass, flute, and percussion. The distinctive harmonica was played by Harry Pitch, who had featured in the 1970 one-hit-wonder Groovin With Mr Bloe. The harmonica part is included in this arrangement but it is cued in the Flute 1 part if one is not available.

Keith Mansfield (born 1941 in London, England) is a British composer and arrangerknown for his creation of prominent television theme tunes, including the Grandstandtheme for the BBC.Mansfield's works include The Young Scene (the original 1968 theme to The Big Match), Light and Tuneful (the opening theme for the BBC's coverage of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships), World Champion (the closing theme for NBC's coverage of the same tournament), and World Series (used for the BBC's athletics coverage). One of his library music recordings, Teenage Carnival, was used as the theme to the cult 1960s ITV children's television series Freewheelers. He has also composed film scores for British movies such as Loot (1970) and Taste of Excitement (1970), and the western Three Bullets for a Long Gun (1971). He also scored the start-up and shutdown themes for Granada Television in 1978, which were used for ten years before it switched to 24-hour television.

Colditz is a British television drama series co-produced by the BBC and Universal Studios and screened between 1972 and 1974.The series deals with Allied prisoners of war imprisoned at the supposedly escape-proof Colditz Castle when designated Oflag IV-C during World War II, and their many attempts to escape captivity, as well as the relationships formed between the various nationalities and their German captors.Colditz was created by Brian Degas working with the producer Gerard Glaister, who went on to devise another successful BBC series dealing with the Second World War, Secret Army. Technical consultant for the series was Major Pat Reid, the real British Escape Officer at Colditz. Exeter City March was composed for the professional Football (soccer) Club in Exeter, UK, for performance over the public address system by the 100-strong Exeter Children's Orchestra. It includes parts for hooligans in the percussion section playing rattles and whistles (these don't sound in the MP3). There was an online competition for the club's fans to choose a title; they chose March of the Grecians (the club's nickname) but as the brief introduction uses the beginning of Rule Britannia I think listeners might be mystified by the Greek allusion, so I prefer my original title! In June 2011 Exeter City March was broadcast on the UK national music radio station, BBC Radio 3, as part of its festival of light music Light Fantastic. There are separate printed parts for all the standard orchestral instruments, including alto and tenor saxophone and descant recorder (not necessary) and there are also optional parts for violin replacing viola, trombone in treble clef, baritone saxophone and horn in E flat.

He spent some time in the Far East but returned to retire in Somerset in the 1930s to a home large enough to have a music-room that the BBC in the West used for broadcasts of concerts featuring  violinist Campoli and others. In 1936 he wrote a short hornpipe which was selected as the signature tune for BBC's  Blue Peter in 1959. This orchestration is for Flute (doubling Piccolo), Oboe, 2 Clarinets in Bb, Bassoon, 2 Horns in F, 2 Trumpets in Bb,   3 Trombones, Percussion and Timpani, and Strings.  Full score and parts included.  Lasting just under 3 minutes it makes an attractive light music item.

The programme migrated to TV, where it ran from 1962-75, and was called Television Top of the Form. Music While You Work was a daytime radio programme of continuous live popular music broadcast in the United Kingdom twice daily on workdays from 23 June 1940 ]until 29 September 1967 by the BBC. Initially, the morning edition was generally broadcast on the BBC Home Service at 10:30am, with the afternoon edition at 3pm on the Forces/General Forces Programme - and after the war on the BBC Light Programme. Between August 1942 and July 1945, a third edition was broadcast at 10:30pm for night-shift workers.The programme began in World War II with the idea that playing non-stop popular/light music at an even tempo would help factory workers become more productive.[4][5] It originally consisted of live music (light orchestras, dance bands, brass and military bands and small instrumental ensembles). Fabio Dentello #752360. Published by Fabio Dentello (A0.1152147). Being one of his most elegant piano sonatas, the sonata in E minor (Hob. XVI: 34) can give us various feelings during its movements. It has a beautiful Adagio and a slight Molto Vivace as a Finale in Rondo form. This piece as said was thought of as a solo Piano Sonata, but the moment I heard it for the first time (on 12/18/2022, and yes, it was precisely on that day, because, I made the decision to start orchestrating it on the next day, the 19th) the idea of orchestrating it came to me because at least for me, it could sound like a beautiful symphony, even if it is very brief. I was extremely satisfied with the results, unfortunately with certain limitations of the VST I use (BBCSO pro) certain excerpts sound a little unrealistic, however, I have great esteem with the result. This orchestration/arrangement can be compared almost faithfully with the original, of course with several additions of voices and certain modifications to adapt it to the context of the orchestra, I tried to be as faithful as possible with Haydn's orchestral language, I am a great admirer of his vast work, and as I am also a classical/romantic composer, I learned a lot from him. I hope you enjoy this work as much as I enjoyed composing it!!
