Orchestrated by Ed Hogan.

Digital Set of Parts for 65/2106L Joel Raney calls on Celtic musical traditions and instrumentation to deliver a refreshing sound for Christmas! The orchestration by Ed Hogan incorporates Irish flutes, drums, acoustic guitar, and fiddle to paint vivid imagery of a beautifully lush and green Irish countryside. Familiar Christmas carols appear, as do some familiar Christmas texts set to beloved Irish and Welsh folk songs. An ethereal opening sets the stage before breaking into an exuberant rendition of I Saw Three Ships. Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus; Away in a Manger; Gentle Mary Laid Her Child; and the beloved Angels We Have Heard on High all make appearances as the work progresses, culminating with a rhythmic re-imagining of O Come, All Ye Faithful set to the traditional Scottish melody Loch Lomond. One of the highlights of this musical is O Holy Night, written for soloist and choir and set to the timeless tune, LONDONDERRY AIR. Present the Christmas story in a uniquely captivating way with this imaginative work!

Dream Angus – Traditional Scottish Tune [A Flat Major] - Orchestra

Dream Angus is an old Scottish folk song, the origins of which cannot be traced. Numerous groups have portrayed the song as a lullaby, most notably Annie Lennox.

Angus is the purveyor of dreams and the song is sung to children (bairns) at night-time to quieten them before sleep…

This orchestral arrangement has been given a somewhat more symphonic treatment! Percussion parts include Glockenspiel, Timpani, and a Drum Set with a Celtic feel. There are many flowing counter melodies especially for Horns and a descant line for Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, and Trumpet…

The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3. Grade = 3 Duration = 4:20 mins

A collector of folk tunes, Lady Nairne (Carolina Oliphant) undoubtedly chose the traditional Scottish air “Hey, Tuttie, Tattie as the setting for her melancholy text because of its beauty and simplicity. Also known as the melody to Robert Burns' nationalistic “Scots Wha Hae, the folk tune has been part of Scottish life for centuries.

Lady Nairne wrote her words upon the passing of the only child of her friend, Mrs. Archibald Campbell Colquhoun. In her setting, the Land O' The Leal is a reference to heaven, where they will someday be reunited.

This orchestral arrangement of the old Scottish tune hopes to capture the serenity and hopefulness of her poem..

Composed by Scottish Traditional. Arranged by Josiah V. Smiddy. Folk,World. Score and parts. 31 pages. Josiah V. Smiddy #4615131. Published by Josiah V. Smiddy (A0.1032233).

This arrangement of The Parting Glass is written for full orchestra with tacet percussion and modeled after the style of the of the Irish supergroup, Celtic Woman.  The Parting Glass is in the same vein as Auld Lang Syne but is still sung traditionally by the Irish though not so much by the Scottish.  The original lyrics from this song describe a person bidding farewell to a good friend who is leaving and my not return.  This arrangement opens with a cadenza solo from the principal cello that is intended to set the tone of the piece in that sorrowful dismissal of a good friend.  It is intentionally written with basic instrumentation.  It does not stretch the ranges too far, but still provides some technical and musical challenges to your ensemble.  This would be a great performance piece for a high school or community orchestra.
