1 Piano,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1127872 Composed by Philip Le Bas. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. Score. 12 pages. Philip Le Bas #728481. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1127872). Incidental music composed for piano duet (4-hands) in four parts by Philip Le Bas to accompany the Japanese folk tale (ghost story) Yuki-Onna (Snow Woman). This piano duet developed out of a cross-cultural project initiated at Morley College, London, in early 2019, aiming to create a melodrama for piano solo and spoken voice to be performed in northern Japan later in the year by young students of the piano. It is based on the ghost-story above, which is widely known in Japan. The tale was transcribed and published by Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) in 1904 as part of his book “Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Thingsâ€, a collection that has been highly influential in expressing popular Japanese culture over the past century. Synopsis of the tale of Yuki-Onna: Two wood-cutters, Mosaku and his apprentice Minokichi, encounter a terrible snow-storm and take shelter in an empty hut by a river. The storm gets worse and worse, but they both finally fall asleep. When Minokichi wakes, he sees a woman all in white bending over Mosaku breathing bright white smoke onto his face. She then approaches Minokichi. She is very beautiful, but her eyes make him afraid. After a while she says, “I intended to do the same to you as I did to the old man, but I feel pity for you because you are a pretty young man. If you ever tell anybody what you have seen, however, I will kill you too.†And she vanishes into the snow storm. It is then that Minokichi discovers Mosaku dead on the floor of the hut. Years later Minokichi meets a beautiful girl, who calls herself O-Yuki. He falls in love with her and they live together in his house, along with his mother, who fortunately takes a liking to her new “honourable daughter-in-law.†Over the years O-Yuki gives birth to ten children and the villagers all agree that she is a wonderful person. But she is somehow different from them, as she continues to look young and fresh, despite the passing years. Minokichi often thinks of telling O-Yuki about the events of years ago, and eventually, as he is gazing at her beauty one night, he can resist it no more. He begins to tell her about the snow storm and the terrifying snow-woman. To his horror O-Yuki becomes more and more angry, and she finally says: “It was me, it was me,… and I said I would kill you if you ever told anyone! But for these children asleep here, I would do so this very moment! You had better take very good care of them; for if ever they have reason to complain of you, I will treat you as you deserve!†As she screams at him her voice becomes thin, like the crying of the wind, and she melts into a bright white mist spiraling into the roof-beams. At that moment it starts to snow, but O-Yuki is never seen again.

1 Piano,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1077842 By Francis Osentowski Digital KB recording. By Francis Osentowski, DMA University of North Texas. Arranged by Original composition. Jazz,Latin. Score. 2 pages. Francis Osentowski #681825. Published by Francis Osentowski (A0.1077842). Simple Salsa was composed for my grandchildren Franklin and Faye and is meant to be fun for new pianists They began piano lessons nine months ago and have made great technical progress and love to perform. The lower part, Piano II, is easier and repeats a basic bass line and simple three note chords. Piano 1 is slightly more difficult but more melodic. The slower section on page two is more melodic and relaxed. The performer can double some of the melody pitches one octave above for more drama and volume. The optional egg shaker part (or any similar shakers) is just a basic Latin rhythm part and is not notated with normal rhythm notation. but just a text suggestion. The music can be played Piano Four Hands or with two pianos. Feel free to add or subtract to the notation and rhythms depending on the level of the young pianists. If other y kids own Latin percussion instruments...they are welcome to join in! Hope you enjoy performing this lively music.

1 Piano,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Digital Download SKU: A0.1501193 Composed by Rafael Hernandez. Arranged by Neil Crossland. Classical,Contemporary,Latin. Score. 17 pages. Neil Crossland #1077151. Published by Neil Crossland (A0.1501193). Rafael Hernández, born in Puerto Rico in 1892, is one of the most influential Latin American composers of the 20th century. His work spans multiple genres, but he is particularly renowned for his contributions to Puerto Rican music, where his compositions have become staples. Among his most famous works is El Cumbanchero, a lively, infectious piece that exemplifies the rhythmic vitality and melodic richness of Latin music. Written in 1943, El Cumbanchero quickly became a hit, celebrated for its exuberant syncopation and catchy melodies that evoke the spirit of the Caribbean.El Cumbanchero has been widely covered and arranged by various artists, but one of the most unique interpretations came from the flamboyant American pianist, Liberace. Known for his elaborate showmanship, Liberace’s version of El Cumbanchero brings a dazzling, virtuosic flair to the piece, combining his classical technique with a flair for dramatic embellishment. His rendition adds layers of complexity and a certain theatricality that aligns perfectly with his style, transforming the original piece into a showcase for his talents.Inspired by Liberace's arrangement, Neil Crossland created a four-hand version of El Cumbanchero based on this interpretation. This arrangement allows two pianists to bring even more depth and dynamism to the piece, capturing both the original's infectious energy and Liberace's intricate, virtuosic style. By blending Hernández's vibrant composition with Liberace's unique interpretation, Crossland's four-hand version offers a fresh and exciting way to experience this Latin American classic.

1 Piano,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Digital Download SKU: A0.977046 Composed by Paul SanGregory. Contemporary. Score. 36 pages. Distant Engraver Music #4801728. Published by Distant Engraver Music (A0.977046). This set of six variations is based on a theme made only of chords. The theme is quiet and simple, yet as the variations begin adding rhythms, melodies and textures, various musical styles, characters and dramatic expressions appear. When certain variations take on characteristics of jazz or salsa, audience members might even forget that they are still hearing the same basic chord structure. This piece is written so that almost any number of players can take turns performing it on either one, or two pianos. When fewer players perform the piece, one pianist can play two or three of the easier parts simultaneously. The minimum number of performers needed is four, but to facilitate the playing of cross rhythms, some groups may prefer 5 or 6 players in some variations. The music is written on 5 separate staves with suggestions of where and how to rotate players in and out of the performance, but performers should feel free to divide the parts between themselves in any way that works for them.   Videos of two different performances can be seen at the following links:http://paulsg.net/Videos/MHVariations.movhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4jbIXK1LiQ&feature=youtu.be

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.890702 Composed by John Pitts. 20th Century. Score and parts. 13 pages. Intensely Pleasant Music #3424643. Published by Intensely Pleasant Music (A0.890702). Changes for twenty nifty fingers (1995) duet 3 minutes This is the ‘simplest’ piece of the collection, and the oldest.  I wrote it during my undergraduate years at Bristol University in response to a task set by my then composition tutor Wyndham Thomas.  The given title Changes refers to the inspiration of the peeling of church bells – ringing the changes - where there is a simple ostinato pattern that undergoes a gradual metamorphosis.  This piece starts with the skeleton of this short repeated phrase (in 14/8) which gradually fills out, and then moves through two enormously tricky sections of phasing - in which the two pianists have overlapping bars of different lengths (14 and 15 quavers).  The duet finally builds to a dramatic climax in the third minute. So, this is a short minimalist piece, ultimately with its technical roots in American minimalism, although the material was more immediately inspired by the piano style of my older brothers, in particular my eldest brother Antony’s piano solo piece Dance of the Redeemed Creation - the style of which can be traced in many of my piano compositions.   Changes has been widely performed by the Kiev Piano Duo (Dmytro Tavanets and Oleksandra Zaytseva), and a recording (performed by Steven Kings and John Pitts) is available on CD 7 Airs & Fantasias and other piano music from www.johnpitts.co.uk - or as a download from Hyperion/1equalmusic: www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_1EMIPM08
