All notes in the PRIMO are played singly with the hands in one position centered around middle C and then played one octave higher. The PRIMO plays the melody for the first two verses and then for the third verse, the SECONDO plays the melody while the PRIMO adds bell-like harmony. The first verse is flowing and legato, but then promptly transitions to a more upbeat rhythm with staccato for the last two verses. The varied colors of the different piano registers are highlighted in the last movement. It would be interesting to perform this piece on historical pianos or keyboards. There is no use of the pedal. These Silent Duration pieces are notable for their incorporation of silence as an integral part of the compositional fabric. The duration is 11'08.
