Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.589362 By Steve Tyrell. By John Frederick Coots. Arranged by David McKeown. Christmas,Contemporary,Jazz,Rock. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #6064595. Published by David McKeown (A0.589362). Santa Claus is Coming to Town was written in 1934 by Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. Although it was a big sheet music seller at the time, it was Perry Como’s 1951 recording that turned it into a major hit. The simple harmony and melody have made this a perennial favourite with everyone from Sinatra to the Jacksons, Maria Carey and Bruce Springsteen. This version borrows from the swinging jazz style of various Sinatra recordings and is arranged as a duet for one Violin and one Clarinet.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are syncopated swing rhythms and some less familiar accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. The short audio sample is from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with jazz rhythms and articulation. Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.578645 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 8 pages. David Warin Solomons #2059779. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.578645). A combination of German and Australian wandering folk songs (Es es es und es and Waltzing Matilda) Journeymen (young craftsmen) in Germany used to be required by law to go from town to town to practise their skills rather than stay in one town, which gave rise to many songs, of which Es es es und es is the best known - (the words of that song mean it is a hard conclusion but I have to leave this town). These journeys were referred to as Walz so these workers went auf der Walz. The idea of travelling auf der Walz was also taken up in Australia (where they called it on the Waltz or on the Wallaby) and it gave rise to the famous song Waltzing Matilda, although, in the Ozzie song, the traveller was a swagman rather than a craftsman. So I have called this arrangement On the Wallaby.

Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587778 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Country,Ragtime,Standards. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #4896915. Published by David McKeown (A0.587778). The most popular  of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s  famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This version for Violin and Clarinet Duet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The linked youtube performance is the Alto Saxophone version of this duet and the repeats are omitted for brevity.Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.
