Shlof Mein Kind is a Yiddish lullaby, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Violin and one Clarinet.

There are two melodies in use for Shlof Mein Kind. The melody in this arrangement is the lesser known one, as sung by Paul Robeson. There is no record of the tune’s composer, but the words are a setting of a poem by the Jewish Ukrainian writer, Sholem Aleichem. Aleichem is best known as the creator of the Tevye short stories, which later inspired the musical Fiddler on the Roof.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Violin and one Clarinet.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets, each written in a different Rock’n’Roll style. Doo-wop reached the height of its popularity in the early ‘60s but its origins were in the African-American vocal harmony groups in East Coast cities in the ‘40s. Doo-Wop was a major influence on the soul and pop music that followed it, with groups such as the Drifters, the Four Seasons and even the Beach Boys adopting the vocal harmonies.

Probably the best known of Scott Joplin’s piano rags, The Entertainer was written in 1902. It was included on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and an orchestration featured on the soundtrack of the movie The Sting in 1973. This arrangement won an Oscar and reached No.3 on the US single charts. 

This version has been arranged as a duet for one Violin and one Clarinet and includes all four sections of the original composition.

Nimrod, is the ninth of the Enigma Variations composed by Edward Elgar in 1899. Here, the music is arranged for Violin and Clarinet Duet, directly from the orchestral score. Elgar wrote fourteen variations on a theme, each one depicting close friends and family. Nimrod represents his publisher and friend Augustus Jaeger. The biblical character of Nimrod is described as a mighty hunter, and jaeger means hunter in German.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. Both parts require dramatic dynamic contrasts and lyrical legato playing.
