At these schools many of his early pieces were premiered and performed, with one work being selected for main-stage production in the season. Moving to Los Angeles and then settling in New York, he performed professionally sometimes as a singer, sometimes as a pianist, sometimes as choral conductor. He composed incidental music for the stage. In 2002 he founded a composers collective where they showcased their work. He was one of the first composers to participate in the American Music Center's initial on-line library. The New Jersey Concert Opera and the Gay Men's Chorus of New Jersey also featured his comic operas and art songs. From 2005 he moved to Costa Rica where he organized concerts with visiting guest artists to present his chamber music to the public. Johann Simon Mayr (1763—1845) is a composer rarely performed today. His music, reflecting the transition from the Classical to the Romantic musical era, inspired Rossini and was crucial in the development of Donizetti’s style. He became a central figure in the musical life of the Italian city of Bergamo where, in 1805, he founded the Conservatory, at the time known as “Lezioni Caritatevoli di Musica�. One of the first pupils of the “Lezioni� was Gaetano Donizetti, whose production and fame soon arose above everyone else’s. The first concerto, in C major, is one of the three surviving keyboard concertos from Mayr’s manuscripts kept in the Biblioteca Musicale Gaetano Donizetti and in the Museo Donizettiano. It is pedagogical in nature, its light orchestration (only 2 oboes and 2 horns joining the strings) allowing it to be performed with minimal forces. In three movements, spanning about 18 minutes in total, it looks back at a late Classical style that was quickly fading out of fashion at the time of its creation (1825-6).This edition comes with the unique contribution of M° Fabrizio Capitanio, in the form of a thorough musicological research delving deep into the historical context, and all of the critical aspects that made this work possible. M° Capitanio also realised the reduction for two pianos for this title (ASE 0051).The full score is available under Catalogue N° ASE 0047, while orchestral parts can be found as a bundle under Catalogue N° ASE 0053.This edition is also the first one in the new series dedicated to the City of Bergamo: La Bergamasque!

In this aria Don José declares his love for Carmen, but she belittles his passionate attempts to convince her of his feelings, saying that if he really loved her, he would take her away from her humble surroundings to a place where she could really be free.The arranger has added a short bridge passage between the opera's initial scenes of communal life centred around a cigarette factory and Don José's beautiful expression of his ill-fated love in Act II.

It has become a collection of highly diverse and multifaceted pieces and forms, ranging from Walzer (Waltz) to Danse macabre, from Fanfare to Zirkusparade (Circus Parade). The fact that the interpreters of the world premiere, Arthur and Lucas Jussen, are siblings, may and should be felt in the teasingly affectionate Fangspiel (Game of Tag) in which the two pianists sometimes deliberately play past each other. The collection is completed by Rätsel (Riddle) for Peter Sloterdijk's 75th birthday, a small, sphinx-like piece for the librettist of my Babylon opera. - Jörg Widmann.
