Jeno Hubay, Head of the Violin Dept at the Budapest Academy of Music, wrote this piece to be as light and celebratory as a perfect spring day. My arrangement abridges and slightly simplifies this classical standard which was originally written for Viola and Piano. I reduced it from 6 1/2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes by focusing on the recapitulation of the main theme but also included opening and closing cadenzas. I have scored it for a Saxophone Octet; 1 Soprano, 4 Altos, 2 Tenors, 1 Baritone. The Soprano Sax has the melody throughout. The Altos and Tenors have occasional countermelody, but mostly pulse ensemble rich chords while the Bari sits on pedal tones. Overall, it creates a rich, balanced saxophone sound which utilizes the full range of the instrument.
