Smalltown Funk was written for the Winfield High School Drumline in 2016 in that headspace. From funky grooves that will get everyone in the stadium dancing to jarring metric changes that will keep the rest of the band on their toes, this jam is not for the student who is faint of heart, or the instructor who is short of patience (or ambition!). It features double strokes, triple strokes, 16th-note syncopations and metric modulations galore, and as is my style, contains an abundance of textures and sounds.
