This part is for flute, preferably in a concert band, and for this song, the flute plays an incredibly important role. The flute, along with the piccolo part pitched an octave above, play the melody for most of the song, and if they aren't, they are playing an important role in supporting the melody, so make sure that the flute sings out, do not let it be reserved. Also, be aware of the quite high notes scattered throughout the piece, you will need to know how to play a high C in order to play. The part contains a wide variety of musical elements, pitch, rhythm, tempo, key etc. The piece is divided into different sections by two or three bar rests, that can prepare the performer for the next section. A flute player should make sure that they keep the wide dynamic range required for the song, but at the same time, to try and not block out the other instruments, especially the piccolos. If played in a non-concert band setting, you may simply ignore the three bar rests. They aren't very useful unless playing in a concert band.
