Lyrical and Expressive Studies for Trumpet, Expanded Edition, is a collection of two sets of vocalises by the 19th century composer, Ferdinand Sieber: Op. 45 and Op. 93. In this publication, each vocalise has been transposed for Bb trumpet from the orginal keys. Additionally, for each study, an alternate version in a different key has been added (often, but not always, in a somewhat simpler key) so that there are actually two versions of every study. One of the most important skills a musician can develop is the art of expression in music; making music come alive through dynamic contrast, varied articulations, dramatic pacing, vibrato, and other elements of musical expression. An excellent way to develop this skill is through the practice of lyrical melodies. The vocalises (song-like studies to develop expressive singing) of Concone, Bordogni, and other composers/voice teachers have been effectively used for many years by trumpeters for developing just this skill.
