This extended piece for trombone explores various themes linked by fanfare motifs. The work is structured in a symmetrical arch form of ABCBA. The outer sections are framed by an introduction and coda, stating a main theme based on a 7th arpeggio motif, syncopated rhythms and changing time signatures. The B sections feature an arching theme based on an arpeggio with augmented 4th. This passes through cycles of keys and thus serves as a modulatory theme. The contrasting central C theme is in the manner of an ironic dotted rhythm march. The work is accessible for the listener and is appropriate for advanced trombonists, including students and professional players. The work covers an almost three-octave range and requires much agility.
