Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808663 Composed by Richard Rodgers. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 21 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #2853385. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808663). My Funny Valentine is a show tune from the 1937 Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart musical Babes in Arms. In the play, a character named Billie Smith sings the song to Valentine Val LaMar. Two years later, the film version of the play was released, but the plot had been revised to the extent that it kept only a couple of songs from the stage version; My Funny Valentine was not one of them. Nonetheless, the song became both a pop and a jazz standard and has been recorded many times. This version has a distinctly baroque feel.Completed in 2016, this arrangement runs about 3 minutes, 29 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, can be reached at lessmith@ufl.edu. Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767251 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Baroque,Renaissance. Score and parts. 18 pages. Lyons Music Services #3121633. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767251). The Fifth book of madrigals starts to see much more development towards operatic style writing, with more songs being strung together to form scenas and with the addition of accompaniment on instruments. Some of these songs can be written by incorporating the accompaniment into the parts for those instruments which are resting, some will require more than a quintet. Certainly as we get into the next three books, reduction to a quintet will become increasingly more difficult, if not impossible. The 14th song, Ahi! Come a un Vago Sol, sings of how a wandering soul finds solace in the arms of a lover.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808659 Composed by Joseph E. Howard and Ida Emerson. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Pop,Traditional. Score and parts. 23 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #2070943. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808659). Prerecorded wax cylinders were first marketed in 1889. Ten years later, when this Howard and Emerson tune was published, those cylinders were referred to as records, and Arthur Collins made the first recording of Hello! Ma Baby. The lyrics tell the tale of a guy who has a girlfriend he knows only through the telephone. This was one of the first songs to deal with the telephone (that medium, too, being still pretty new). The chorus was kicked back into the spotlight in 1955 when a certain movie frog sang and danced his way across a Warner Brothers cartoon background. The current version used the 1899 sheet music as its source, but is a completely original arrangement that enhances the ragtime feel of the music. This is an infectious piece that is fun to play and a toe-tapper for the audience. Completed in 2016, this arrangement’s performance time runs about 3 minutes, 20 seconds.
