The Holberg Suite, Op. 40, more properly From Holberg's Time (Norwegian: Fra Holbergs tid, German: Aus Holbergs Zeit), subtitled Suite in olden style (Norwegian: Suite i gammel stil, German: Suite im alten Stil), is a suite of five movements based on eighteenth century dance forms, written by Edvard Grieg in 1884 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Danish-Norwegian humanist playwright Ludvig Holberg. It exemplifies nineteenth century music which makes use of musical styles and forms from the preceding century. The movements of the suite are: Praeludium (Allegro vivace) Sarabande (Andante) Gavotte (Allegretto) Air (Andante religioso) Rigaudon (Allegro con brio) The Holberg Suite was originally composed for the piano, but a year later was adapted for string orchestra. The suite consists of an introduction and a set of dances. It is a charming, early essay in neo-classicism, an attempt to echo as much as was known in Grieg's time of the music of Holberg's era. This edition is an arrangement for a traditional Brass Band, and the music works very well for the band.

According to this legend, at midnight on Halloween Death calls forth the dead to dance for him while he plays his fiddle. His skeletons dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year. This is a very challenging arrangement that includes a contrapuntal section, a tricky modulation, and an unusual presentation of the Dies Irae.

The first trumpet part has been written with B-flat piccolo trumpet in mind. It is certainly possible to perform the first trumpet part on standard B-flat or C trumpet, the part goes up to (concert) high B-flat twice. However, the part sits at the top of the staff for extended phrases and is better suited for a B-flat piccolo. However, parts are provided for B-flat piccolo, standard B-flat and C trumpet. Nessun dorma (None shall sleep) is  an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot and is one of the best-known arias in all of opera. Although Nessun dorma has long been a staple of  operatic recitals, Luciano Pavarotti popularized the piece well beyond the world  of opera with his many recordings and live performances. Nessun  dorma became his signature aria. Nessun dorma also appeared on the best selling classical album of all time, The  Three Tenors in Concert. However, our favorite  version will always be the soul-infused rendition by Aretha  Franklin during the 1998 Grammy Awards, in which she sang in place of Luciano Pavarotti when he was unable to  perform due to throat problems.
