Each fanfare is in a different style, and the set was conceived to accompany a ceremonial occasion. Fanfare #1 heralds the Arrival of the monarch. The antiphonal Fanfare #2 precedes the performance of the main business of the day. Finally, Fanfare #3 signals the conclusion of the day's business and the monarch's Departure. Of course, if you don't happen to have a reigning monarch on hand, the fanfares will work just as well for any VIP or dignitary :) The fanfares are written for a team of 8 fanfare trumpets (Eb + 4 Bb + 2 Tenors + Bass), plus optional timpani and cymbals. The parts can also be played by regular brass: Eb trumpet or cornet, 4 Bb trumpets or cornets, 2 trombones, euphoniums or baritones, and a bass trombone or tuba.
